Just curious

Thanks for the help!
Actually I think the Sapphire HD-6970 would make a nice addition in X-Fire to an unlocked & overclocked Sapphire HD-6950 DIRT3 edition card. Since the DIRT3 dual fan cooler blows air everywhere, have it under the 6970 and the air will blow on the underside of that card helping cool it. And yeah the Sapphire HD-6970 vents the heat out the Rearplate so might make a good card combination ? And if you ACT NOW ... it's still on sale w/ a MIR at NewEgg ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102918 ... normally $360, on sale $350, plus -$30 MIR expires 10/31/2011 SO HURRY ! = $320 + Free Shipping + some lame free gift.

Ok after hours and hours of testing last night on through to this morning.. The unlocked 6950 is unstable at stock 6970 clocks 1.3v reaching 95C under load.. that to me is not good for a 24/7 OC.. I was getting freezes as well as screen tear while in games. Getting artifacts in furmark to.. So I went ahead and returned both cards this afternoon and got 2 6970's. Received 2 more copies of dirt 3 as well... So I got the new cards in and about to run some tests in BF3..

will report back results.

Thanks again for all the help and advice from everyone that took the time to read and post

You're OCing it to 880/1375 @ 1.3v? That's WAY too much voltage.

I have the DiRT3 unlocked to 6970 specs and I have it OC'd to 940/1400 @ 1.18v and it's perfectly stable in BF3 (or at least has been for the last 4 days), gaming in 1-2 hour sessions at a time (and one 4 hour session..hehe).

For stock 6970 you should try:

880 core
1375 mem
1.15v (or 1.16 if it's still unstable)
