You just got done saying that CMSS-3d is useless in another thread and that people shouldn't use gaming mode. Without gaming mode what advantages does the Titanium HD have over a Xonar in games other than with EAX supported titles.

Absolutely. CMSS-3D and all those modes distort sound. The card works itself out to produce the appropriate sounds for positional cues. I can't tell you how it works that way, as I don't get into the intrinsics of the card, but it does it. Perhaps someone might be able to research that for you and give you a reason as to why the Titanium HD is good for gaming.

I don't know, thats the first that I've ever heard of that. I would need some verification on that before I take it as a fact. Even creative doesn't advertise that.

You'd be hard pressed to get most headphone users to opt for plan Vanilla mode over CMSS or DolbyHeadphone when it comes to gaming and positional cues/immersion.

As soon as I turn these modes off the game sounds flat, boring and less involving.

Ask people that use the card then, or go look up reviews from unbiased people.

Not hard to figure out it sounds like crap. Same with Dolby Headphone most of the time.

I personally game in gaming mode, with CMSS3D turned off, Dolby turned off, Crystalizer turned off, and bass boost on. Anything other than gaming i use audio creation mode for bit-matched playback. It may not be conventional, but its the best settings for my set up by far.

I am confused. If you tuned off CMSS,Dolby etc.. then why even use gaming mode? Just switch to Audio Creation Mode and call it a day.

Don't get upset. I don't take anyones word for it on the forums. I learned that quite a while ago.

CMSS-3d clearly distorts sound. You can see that easily when leaving game mode on and listening to some music. I'm not arguing that. My question is with you implying that these creative cards somehow have better positional audio in audio creation mode than something like a xonar dx. I didn't start visiting the forums yesterday and this is the first that I've heard of that.

Exactly, and even more to the point why even use a creative card? How is it "better for gaming".

Simple really, CMSS3D doesn't play nice with games that have their own built-in implementations of 3D-positioning-over-stereo. BF3 with CMSS3D on has terrible positioning, and all the nasty distortion and lack of audio quality that CMSS3D always brings.

Now, if I were to play a game with raw 7.1 output, CMSS3D would make positioning work great over my stereo headphones, but there a very few games that don't have their own built-in version, which also benefit from positioning. I don't need to hear where footsteps are coming from in Guild Wars, its a moot point. I'd rather have the sound quality higher.

I do however need the card to not quit on me when there are many simultaneous sounds playing. Audio Creation mode simply cannot handle having 30 different sounds thrown at it at the same time. Gaming mode can.

CMSS3D IS a superior technology for converting 5.1/7.1 into fake 3D over Stereo. Problem is most modern games either don't need such a thing, or already have one natively built in, which causes conflicts, as stated above. The Xonar cards are all fairly modern and were never around when CMSS3D was a big deal. Its a bit of a moot point.

As for audio creation mode to xonar dx positioning, no, the x-fi isn't any better, whats your point? I run in audio creation mode because CMSS3D doesn't offer me anything useful, and merely distorts my audio.

It has proper EAX support. Not only EAX5.0 instead of 2.0, but it is also native instead of emulated. Many games are also designed with X-Fi cards in mind (even if it is merely unlocking a higher-tier of settings if it detects one is present). How is it NOT better for gaming?

Furthermore, why are you being so defensive about this? The forte and titanium HD are both excellent cards for gaming, and the asus isn't any better for audio creation, so you've kind of got no point here other than to antagonize people do you?

That is exactly my point.

No modern game uses EAX either so by your logic its just as much of a moot point as CMSS-3d.

The reason that I replaced my Xonar DX with a Titanium HD was for the proper EAX support for the older games that I do enjoy but had I not found one for $60 I would have stuck with the Xonar. Is EAX support enough to justify the price for a creative card?

What you guys have to understand is to not get so defensive. This forum is here for an open discussion and not everyone is going to agree with you or just take an opinion as gospel. I see a lot of that in this audio subforum. No one is open to discussion here. I don't see how asking how someone comes to a conclusion is antagonizing anyone.
