Why am I scoring better with a laser mouse?

Thread Starter
Hey all,

First, let me say I really like mice and buy more than the average gamer. I'm looking at 8 right now on my desk.

So I'm really confused all of a sudden. Let me try and make a long story short.

Over the past 15 years I started out with ball mice, then optical then laser.

The mice I've used the longest since 2005ish.

Logitech G9
Razer Lachesis and Imperator
NZXT Avatar
Logitech G500
and from Dec to Sept the R.A.T 7

I started to visit OC more often and I kept reading optical mice are better SO I start buying optical mice (not all at once. If one wasn't working for me I'd repace it)

CM Spawn
Logitech G400
Roccat Kova [+]

This was about the same time Red Orchestra 2 came out and I proceeded to utilize these mice. My scores were terrible. I don't think I ever broke single digits even after a few weeks. BF3 comes out and the same. I can't hit the broad side of a barn.

I finally get irritated enough to try out my R.A.T 7 last night and BAM, double digits in both games! Either the RAT 7 is awesome sauce or me and optical just don't get along.

Alright, with that info I provided is there a reason for this? Maybe I'm configuring my optical settings wrong?

I'm using an Artisan Hien hard dark blue mouse pad.

thanks

Installed drivers for any of the said mouses?

I bet the driver/program running in background is what's causing it.

I see you mention optical mice but no mention of the MX518 or the optical DeathAdder. How can this be?

It's because you haven't used MX518 or the Deathadder.

The G400 is basically a 518...

Laser mice have always performed better for me. It's just something certain people feel differently as opposed to others.

For example, here's my performance with an Optical Mouse.

And here's my performance with a Laser mouse. Pretty massive difference.

What is suppose to be the difference in feel between the laser and the optical?
There's differences between them all. Even the Avago 9500 should perform different than the PTE 2302.
If the R.A.T. is giving the score I wouldn't stop using it. The weirdest of all is that he's using a cloth pad which is said to be the worst for laser mice. I've tried 3 laser mice on the QCK and only one of them has issues (Razer Copperhead Avago-6010) so this might be a real misconception.

it's the shape and weight of the mouse, always. also the games u stated don't really require any "ultra fast turbo precision aiming" so the difference in your scoring is definitely not a result of a superior sensor technology, which i assure you laser is not.

@frickfrock99: you aren't even playing against the same players. lol
