[MaximumPC]AMD Says Trinity Coming 'Very Early Next Year' - Page 5

Am I crazy for wanting to be able to offload post-processing like MLAA to the GPU on Trinity? Could make Trinity a fairly compelling processor for a gaming build if it could.

Well, if it has a strong enough CPU component (at least a 25% faster than Phenom II at the same clock speeds), might considering the switch to FM2 socket. I have no need for a CPU that runs at a crapload of MHz, but rather one that's efficient clock-per-clock. My computer is a workstation, needs to be reliable as heck. I can't lose hours of work because an OC went wrong.

Didn't pick an Intel because I have a sort of 'feeling' towards AMD, and because at the time, board+CPU were €330, while the cheapest similar Intel alternative (i7 920) was €500. And the Phenom performed almost identical in what I do (ACAD, PS, SolidWorks, video transcoding, gaming).

Not to mention the revision that was out was the C0, which overclocked like crap compared to the C3 that AMD had. For those occasional OC sessions for the lulz

I don't think a grain of salt is enough for AMD release dates and projections any more.

This makes no sense. Clock speed and Instructions Per Clock have no connection. You can ramp up the clock speed to 10 terahertz, and instructions per clock will remain the same.

I think they should focus on mobile laptops first imo.

Ahh, OCNs usual derpatude.

First off, this is Piledriver, enhanced Bulldozer. The major issues with BD would be fairly easy to overcome in the time they've had (Cache and Decoder performance)
Secondly, Llano is a tad slower than a Phenom II because of a lack of L3 cache.
Thirdly, It isn't horrible. It has eight cores. It uses around the same power as an Intel six core on the same node, derp less.

I don't see why Trinity should fail, to be honest. They've learned the hard lesson with BD. And they have Piledriver and other optimisations en route this time. One of them, on the manufacturing process itself.
Someone who actually reads more into stuff than the thread title and the pretty graphs.

Remains to be seen actually, current Llano chips get limited by the GPU clock speed as there isn't an unlocked model.

QFT, yields are improving BD dramatically in terms of OC potential and power consumption, its quite insane IMO.

I wonder if the base bulldozer architecture is fundamentally broken, or if indeed IPC can be increased so we can see performance increases with todays programs, non of this win 7 scheduler is pathetic, use win 8 junk they attempted to feed us.

hopefully PD fixes BD IPC issues, power consumption i think is more of GFs problem.
I expect the delay being more to them wanting to get BD out the door, then fixing all the smaller issues with it to improve IPC. (Cache size/speed and decoder speed being the main things)

Perhaps, like Phenom -> PhII, we'll see a major improvement with Piledriver. I just hope for AMD's sake that the difference between BD and PD is bigger than the difference between Phenom and Phenom II.
I think they launched it so the third party optimization can be done (Eg. gcc compiling FMA, linux and windows schedulers using very second core until they have to use the shared ones, etc) and to get product out in 2011.
