Sound over HDMI question - Page 2

Thread Starter
There are some 7.1 games on console, but I don't know about PC. The link he sent me said that the 570 and 580 don't do anything non compressed though the HDMI. That's why you can't bitstream. They run the 110 something and it was a disapointment for audio people wanting uncompressed audio through the video card.

Either way, it does sound great, and I'm being a little nick picky with my receivers display. I was worried at first that I would need a sound card to run my setup, and I can't imagine a sound card doing as good of a job as a decent AVR.

It's usually the midrange and below cards that get the full HTPC features treatment.

I don't see that information about nothing non-compressed through the page of the link, didn't read the whole article. It says it supports 8 channel LPCM. I'm about 97% sure that LPCM is an uncompressed, unencoded format. And no bitstreaming means you won't get Dolby True-HD or DTS Master (which are also not compressed but are encoded) when you watch blu-ray. Not sure if that means the source get's decoded to 7.1 LPCM, or if you end up with regular DTS or DD signal coming over the wire.
