Sapphire 6950 Toxic vs Dirt3?

I'm currently debating between these two cards. Can anyone tell me the difference and which you'd recommend in terms of price/performance (i.e. is the +$25 worth it)?

Thanks!

The D3 is the one to go for if silence is important to you.
The Toxic is a great overclocker, probably worth the 25 extra.

DiRT 3 has two fans instead of 1. That's mostly where the cost is coming from I would think.

Actually, the Dirt3 is cheaper.

Is the Dirt3 much quieter than the Toxic? The overclocking ability is tempting, but I do also like a quiet system.

Toxic is the one to get. It still has a better chance of unlocking it's almost identical to 6970.

From what i've heard it's not that load, but certainly louder than a dual-fan cooler.

between those 2...Toxic for the extra money

do some searches on here for 6950 Toxic...you will find TONS of threads...mostly by LA Kings...he is the local Toxic fan boy biggrin.gif

but yeah the Toxic overall has more OC headroom...better chance to unlock...there is more to the list but those are 2 main points

I actually had the toxic 6950
that card was uber fast lol, and thats before any kind of OC or unlock.
its got a dual bio and custom pcb just demanding you to unlock the shaders and OC it.
unfortunately I had to return it because the card ran close to 90 degrees under mild load (fan at 30%), and thats with a case fan pointing into the intake of the card.
the temperature drop significantly though if you turn up the fan speed, but then it turns into a little jet engine that rattles the whole table.
my setup wouldnt be able to help the card reach its potential so i decided to let it go =[ and picked up a TF3 instead.
but while choosing, i also looked at the Dirt 3 edition card, that thing is also a beast. everything is just a tad below the toxic card, but has way quieter cooler since its dual fan. i would've went for it if my TF3 wasnt on sale. either way, between those two, its a battle of performance vs. noise. if you want a kick ass card, go for toxic. if you want some silence, go for dirt 3.
but just throwing this out there option wise, MSI's Twin Frozr II or III are both even more silent than the dirt 3 card, performs just a SLIGHT slower than the dirt 3 card i think.
hope that helps!

Not entirely true, i've had the D3 and TF3, but the TF3 is by default louder.
But the fan profile on TF3 is quite aggressive, seems to try and keep it below 60 tongue.gif
There is a alternative bios with silent profile on the TF3, but i haven't unlocked that one (yet).
TF3 is faster and cooler than the D3 btw. 850/1300 vs 800/1250.
If the choice is between D3 and TF3, TF3 is the obvious choice. It's got more VRM's and ram cooling.

WHO ME ? rolleyes.gif naaaaaaaaaaaah biggrin.gif

you locco kookoo.gif I didn't START the threads ... much like THIS one ... I just FINISH THEM wink.gifbiggrin.gif

cheers.gif TOXIC today and TWICE on Sunday and every day that ends in a Y cheers.gif

IF your BUDGET is very tight you can TRY the DIRT3 card ... it's a VERY GOOD card ... but the TOXIC is a GREAT CARD.

Chance at UnLocking into a HD6970 ... TOXIC edition = 66-75% ... vs. ... DIRT3 edition = 33-50% ... vs. ... MSI PE/OC TwinFrozrIII = 50-66%.

IF I was buying again ... I'd buy in THIS ORDER ... the TOXIC ... the MSI PE/OC TwinFrozrIII ... the DIRT3 Edition ! ... one of the OLD PowerColor PCS++ cards w/ Dual Bios.
