AMD Phenom II X4 Overheating - Page 6

I picked up AMD Overdrive to see if maybe the AMD heat sensor program would work better. Sadly it did not, but it did give me some different information about fans that I dont think I have. I was looking at the Fan Control portion and FAN0 is running at 48.2c idle, FAN1 - 3 is running at 256c - 264c according to the program...what may be happening here? I only have one fan connected to my board and that is the CPU fan. All my other fans are attached to the GPU or on the case. any thoughts?

I think it happened around 105c - 110c when it did which seemed really really odd to me! I figure anything above the damn BOILING POINT is AWFUL!!! I am going to try the new heatsink when the funds come in but for now I am kinda stuck. Thanks for the advice.

ok i have a thermal gun and gonna do some tests for ya example compare its display to core temp on pc etc.. and tell you how accurate the gun/pc display is. give me a little bit and ill get back to you on that. im thinking it is NOT accurate as I can not see a cpu going over 100c several times and still working! who knows with this crazy world tho lol

try reseating the sink again..put a pea-sized drop of TIM on the middle of the chip..squish the sink down flat and hold it with one hand while you attach clips with the other..

I reapplied twice last night, once using the applicator and once doing the pea sized dot and pushing it down. I will try again because I really have nothing else to try but just a heads up that all the specs and reports from the last day have been with the latter of the applications.

Dstoler ill check again later tonight when I get in and see if I can get a thermal gun by then. thank ya much.

well the 200c+ temps are empty fan power connectors on the motherboard. it is a good idea to atleast hook up the exhaust fan (back of the case) to the motherboard to see its rpm's so that it may also adjust accordingly. if it is just connected to a 4 pin molex connector to power it wont change in speeds according to temperature. but if 100% i guess it doesnt matter.

on amd od i have a temp on fan0 is 34c and the other 3 fans show no temps and i have all 5 of my fan connectors on the motherboard connected. so im confused there

:doh.gif: hey..are the snap-down brackets (plastic things) secured to the board? also..what's the vcore? (cpu voltage) you could have a warped chip ihs as well..

The clamps are down for sure...but ill double check. Vcore is at .94 idle and at 1.365 load. +12v is at 9.59v. Shouldnt that be closer to 12v?

well the vcore drops down so low because thermal throttling is enabled in bios. i have that turned off for my overclocked computer and it shouldnt change anything but wouldnt hurt to maybe disable it? (wont harm your computer disabling)

ok so with my thermal gun (master cool infared thermometer) at idle everything seems to be spot on to whats showing on core temp program. but i cant get to the cpu because of the obvious water block in the way. i did not try the back of the board but it seems like a decent way of seeing temps in the system as a whole. if your cpu is truly going over 100c (which i dont think it is) it should show a pretty big difference with the heat gun for the surrounding area. (obviously not quite 100c but it should be a good 30c above idle temps i would think as the processor heats up the area around it. man i sure hope u get to the bottom of this is has got me baffled. good luck again sorry i couldnt help more!
