As promised, here are some pictures of the first stages of bondo work. I opted to buy a tube of spot putty as opposed to a large tin of bondo filler. I didn't need a huge can for two hinges; figured this was cheaper, lol. So, here's the filler, the hinges, and some sand paper. Nothing too fancy.

2011-11-04_16-26-35_92.jpg

I still remember sanding the first set of hinges! Sanding inside those fine detail areas really sucked. The first time I had a soft (read: spongy) sanding pad that got into the small places. However, this time I just had sandpaper so I had to work bit harder to get into the small crevices.
2011-11-04_16-26-44_474.jpg

This coat was a bit too thick. I was unsure how thick I could make the coats of the filler putty so I figured there would be some casualties. This ended up cracking some, and I made the next coats on the other pieces thinner. These will probably necessitate 3 coats I'm thinking.
2011-11-04_16-33-03_326.jpg

And here are the other pieces all with one coat. As you can see, the others have a bit less filler on them (the ones you can see the detail still showing through). I'm going to let these dry overnight. Tomorrow I'll give them a good sanding and go from there. Shouldn't be more than a few more days on these. The longest thing is waiting for the filler to thoroughly dry; the filler putty takes longer than traditional two-part filler.
2011-11-04_17-16-03_250.jpg

So there ya go! I'm working on it! I pwomise. tongue.gif

Honestly I thought that the hinges looked quite nice on the case as they were. But it's not my case so yeah. XD

I flip flop between thinking they are out of place and thinking they look good. Syrillian wanted them smooth and we never got to see the finished product on the case, so there's only one way to see, lol. If they look really awful then I can just use a wire brush and sand them back though. smile.gif

So we left off with this.
2011-11-04_17-16-03_250.jpg

This is after I sanded down that initial coat of filler. Still some work to do. smile.gif
2011-11-05_13-50-42_843.jpg?t=1320682565

So I added the second coat of filler.
2011-11-05_13-59-59_63.jpg?t=1320682565

Here is the second coat sanded down. The filler is almost ready at this point. You can still see some small divots in the filler though.

2011-11-05_16-39-12_152.jpg?t=1320682569

I'm really happy with how they look so far.
2011-11-05_16-38-57_948.jpg?t=1320682744

And this is the last coat. I put this on Saturday evening and just haven't had time to sand it yet. Over this week I'll get this coat sanded and will then prime and paint the hinges. Sooooo, hopefully that means this weekend will bring hardware going into the case! biggrin.gif
