Is that hardware answers to this statement ?

I forgot to mention : I'll be buying two kits of Mushkin, totalling 16 GB of RAM.
When you put the words "limit" and "future" in the same sentence on here is when things start to get iffy.

A 2700k isn't going to limit you for a long time, but eventually it will. The RAM specs look to be solid. There is always faster but 1600Mhz is a good "bang for buck" price point imo.

From what you've told me you'll be doing I think you'll be plenty satisfied with the components you have there. Anyone else agree/disagree?

Ah ah ah !

Well, I was still running 3 virtual machines at the same time with my old E8400 overclocked. But since I had a buyer for it, I was better to let it go than die with it That's why I'm upgrading right now.

For the RAM, I was also trying to choose a module that runs at 1.5v, since the Intel spec sheets are saying SAndy Bridge is designed to run with RAms under 1.575v (have read this deeply on Intel's website). Getting 1600 Mhz for 1.5v was difficult, I don't even want to imagine at higher clock speeds !

My old Maximus Formula has never limited me. Plenty of ports and connections on it, performance was incredible. I want the samething and even better for my new build, and I think the WS Revolution is for me ...

A big thanks for your advice !!!

Yup no problem dude. Enjoy your new souped up build it'll be quite the improvement. And share benchmarks/clock speeds of the 2700k!

Well I'll might be overclocking the 2700K out of the box, but not a lot ... Maybe I'll push it a 4 GHz, not more. 4 Ghz is a nice, round number .......... ah ah ah

I think you don't even have to increase the voltage to get that speed, or maybe just 0.05v up.

Just for fun ... for an enthusiast guy which ask to build a new rig, what kind of mainboard you usually recommend ?

Yeah it'd do 4Ghz no problem. I was thinking more like 5Ghz

Seriously. Go check out the benches for these chips. Haha.

I've always been partial to Asus boards myself. The board you already had chosen is a great board, one of the best for the P67/Z68 for enthusiasts imo. (Course I don't know every single model so I may be wrong)

For an enthusiasts I'd recommend the board I'm going with for X79, the Asus ROG or the EVGA SR-3. But you said you didn't want them haha 6 cores/12 threads beats 4/8 however you're also paying twice the price sooooo.

Yeah, twice the price, and you didn't count the cost of the mainboard yet over the actual 1155 platform ... Sandy Bridge E was, on paper, an amazing platform, but too pricey for what you get. Sure, 6 cores/12 threads is completely amazing, but since programming isn't a the same step than hardware, a 2600K still does better than the 1366 flagship 990X... That's why I'm more conservative and want to go with 1155.

Thanks a lot !

I think I'm going to have fun with this rig. My old one was starting to slow down when I need it (you know when your PC doesn't follow you anymore.... XD). Hopefully this new one will not do this ah ah !

If anyone wants to share its idea, feel free !!!
