iTunes 10.5 - almost instant startup!

Thread Starter
I don't hold a high opinion of Windows version of iTunes, but imo, it's playlist management and tagging abilities are quite good compared to other popular music players. This and fact that i'm kinda used to it after using it for several years have kept me from uninstalling and looking for another music player.

One of the things that bugged me the most (after lack of support for FLAC and some other music formats) was it's slow start whether you have 10 or 10000 songs in your library. Anyway, today i updated to 10.5 from 10.1 , and i noticed that startup was somewhat faster.

After disabling ipod and bonjour services , replacing distnoted.exe (found in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Apple\\Apple Application Support) with empty text file and uninstalling Apple Update Utility and Bonjour Services(important! Before uninstalling this, iTunes had a strange 1 second lag while starting up), startup time is insanely fast now:

------------------- First start / Every other start ---------- (in seconds)
iTunes 10.1 - .......5-6.............. 2-3
iTunes 10.5 - .......2-3 ............. < 1

I have about 6k songs in my library and iTunes is installed on my Intel 320 SSD.

Hope that someone found this useful. And if anyone knows how to make iTunes play FLAC , you will make me one happy cookie!

I've always had fast startup with iTunes and I've got a large library of Apple Lossless songs. Not sure why either. I do nuke most of the extras though.

And no, iTunes won't play FLAC. However, I find that you can convert FLAC to Apple Lossless easily with a converter and that'd suffice more or less.
