Is my build any good?

Thread Starter
I Built my system a few months back and I haven't got to try any games on it since I have never installed any OS besides Linux. It runs very fast starts up quick and everything. The RAM went dead a little while ago and I need to get new RAM before I can do anything else. Before I buy windows I want to know if this build is even any good though. I have filled out all my specs can you take a look at them and tell me what you think? Also I was thinking about upgrading to 12GB of corsair RAM and getting a second HD5830.

not sure if your motherboard if good for overclocking, as MSI is questionable, buy a decent asus, some ram and buy some games, then if you need to buy another 5830

I have read a lot of reviews that were posted after I bought my MOBO that people have problems with it so I was thinking about switching that. What asus would you suggest?

i had an m4a89td pro usb3 and it was awesome and did everything i want, but there's many choices, make sure it has an 8+2 power phase or better, and mosfet cooling and your good to go with an overclock on your proccessor if you get an aftermarket cooler.

Your build is very similar to my own, and I am very happy with mine. I haven't had a single problem from my MSI motherboard.

Do you use your build to game? I have never gotten to test mine out on games due to faulty RAM and no windows.

Not sure about your mobo, but if you're not going to be overclocking that rig looks good for gaming. I used to have a phenom ii x4 945 and a hd 5770 and it was pretty good for all games. So your rig with a phenom ii x4 955 and two hd 5830s will be even better.

MSI's have a decent reputation (not up to Asus/gigabyte, but above ECS)

Your system should play about any game very well, I have a Q6600 @ 3.2 + 5770 (think my cpu is a little faster, my gpu a little slower) and I'm able to play SC2 in Ultra, and even make fraps videos while playing with no problems (this is from yesterday):

I heard its good for simple overclocking. I'm guessing not really high clocks.

If you want a good board to overclock with, Asus or Gigabyte have some good boards. Even MSI and ASRock.

ASUS M5A88-V EVO AM3+ AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

I skimmed over the posts and saw that you should get a new motherboard. That board is a good one for a decent price but if we had a budget if you were thinking of upgrading, It would help.

Also, If you are thinking about doing a graphics card upgrade, Since the 1GB 5830 card is around $180 retail still, You could get a 6870 2GB for like $179 AFTER the Mail-In Rebate. which would be better of course compared to 1GB card. Same price as another 5830 but WAY better. Also you get DiRT 3 game coupon. Link below.

He already has a 5830 though and is thinking of Xfire. So I think it would be a better use of what he has to spend the $180 for the 5830.
