Thread Starter
Hmm Thanks for the suggestions, I decided to just wait it out a bit for blackfriday there's a better chance of saving some money.

The 6950 is alright suggestion as that can be unlocked to a 6970 potentially which performs as good as a GTX 570. However a 2300 has a locked multiplier and you can only overclock with turbo or via the Base Clock, either way max your gonna see out of this chip is like extra 400mhz. My Mistake the 2300 cannot be overclocked AND is dual core!, I was confusing it with a 2500. Clearly the 2300 is a processor to be avoided.

The 2500k/gtx 560 ti for an extra $40 or so has an unlocked multiplier and can be overclocked up to and including 5ghz.

Personally buying a 2300 would be like buying a Porsche and having a 1.0 Litre engine installed.

'Held back' is an understatement.

Yeah this aint a bad idea, I think with a bit of luck you'll get your build done complete with case and HDD within your $700 budget.

How are those intel overclocks with this game? I had to back my oc almost completely off, and underclock my gpu's slightly. Just made it too unstable for normal game play. Also, one 560ti is not going to get you 60fps on ultra. I barely get that with 2, and I'm running really short on vram, starts stuttering and becomes almost unplayable after a bit. Will prolly have to back off of the AA a little bit. You should be able to play at "very high" settings, as long as you don't max out the aa, and don't expect a constant 60fps. There is a reason people are doubling up on 580's to play...

I just ran a 5 minute fraps benchmark with my sig rig and got average of 51FPS and maximum of 85 with everything on max and vsync on.

I think a 2500k with a gtx 560 will probably get an average on 40-45, which is very playable.

I turned my gpu overclock back to stocks for those results, as I kept getting green flashes on screen, but ive only just turned vsync on so maybe that will solve it.

560ti + my cpu = easily above 60fps @ high if i turn off HBAO [which is a no brainer considering how little of a difference is visible when you're in the heat of things, not counting still-shots where it can actually look a fair bit different]
