ATI 3D monitor? 120hz or not

Hi guys

I am currently in the market for a new monitor and 3d technology is quite tempting to me, but while trying to research 3d monitors I am getting increasingly confused.

when using an ATI card do I really need a "true 120hz monitor" in order to play games in 3d or is that just nvidia 3d that needs that?

There is a 32 inch 3D LED TV that I have found that looks quite good but it is not "true 120hz" and doesnt have a display port. Would this be sufficient for 3d gaming?

http://www.ebuyer.com/269742-lg-3d-tv-32in-32lw450u-aek?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products

if I did go for a true 120hz monitor with display port am I able to game in 3D @ 1080p over 24fps? Im assuming thats what the limitation is with a non-120hz monitor

I think you do but I'm not sure. I have a Samsung 120Hz monitor and it works great with a 5870.

http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/pages/supported-hardware.aspx

That's the support list I would buy something on it.

For 3D HDTVs you can only use HDMI 1.4a for HD3D, which restricts your 3D to 720p@60Hz or 1080p@24Hz. I would not recommend the latter, 24 FPS isn't exactly fluid. If you're playing from a couch 720p won't be that bad.

If you want 1080p@60 Hz your only options are the Samsung 750D and 950D series monitors that use DisplayPort for 3D.

yes I was going to ask that. What about 120hz monitors with DVI-D for 1080p@60hz, such as this monitor:

[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG236HE-Monitor-23-inch-Widescreen/dp/B0041S5LQ0/ref=pd_sxp_f_r"]Asus VG236HE 3D Monitor 23-inch Widescreen 120HZ - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

how would this do for gaming on 1080p @ 60hz?

why is there such a huge price gap from 23 inch 120hz 3d to 27 inch

That one is listed as Nvidia compatible, not AMD.

edit- The 4870 doesn't support AMD HD3D either for that matter.

I have a 6950 now. Do I need to find a passive 3d monitor for AMD or something? why wont this one also work with AMD?

Good stuff I just assumed because of the sig. When I tried to figure this stuff out a couple months ago it was confusing and very few people could help. Driver support for the monitors determines what is supported and how well. I bought the Samsung 950 for 3dvision and then found out that I couldn't even enable 3dvision without a driver hack and it looks like crap when I do. I tried the monitor with my 5870 and it works beautifully. I think you may be stuck buying one of the Samsung monitors if you want to do 3D gaming with an AMD card.

That one or the 700 usd 27 inch version.

Or you have to get a 3D TV and everything I have read says they really don't work for gaming, just watching movies and stuff.
