Clean CPU thermal compound - Page 2

I don't see why you would spend money on a gimmicky product like that. I think I bought my bottle of rubbing alcohol for about $0.70... I'm willing to bet that the active ingredient in the TIM remover is just an organic solvent similar to alcohol, if not alcohol.

Actually I'm pretty sure the AC TIM remover is just "goo-gone", it smells exactly the same. If that's the case goo-gone is basically just pretroleum naphtha and citrus oil.

But yeah, alcohol is fine. OP, if you want to spend extra $ they do sell the Arctic Clean at Radioshack if you have one nearby. Otherwise, high isopropyl alcohol and a few coffee filters works fine.
The artic set if you smell the stage one solvent smells JUST like goo gone cleaner. So i assume its to breakup up the particles of a high density TIM. The second is obviously high % alcohol. Ive used it for yearsssss and it is amazing. 1-3 passes with stage 1..then 1-2 passes with stage 2 and that CPU is good enough to be considered "virgin" of all other TIM's.

*edit* holy crap anubis you beat me by seconds...and i totally agree.

Haha, yep, I concur. I've also been using it for about the last year, and am finally running out, those little 30ml bottles last a while. I've switched platforms, HSF's, GPU heatsink's, reseated CPU, etc. and used the arctic clean liberally every time, probably 20-30 times. I got mine for $6 at microcenter, and I didn't regret my purchase, it does work very well.

This. Paper towels also are NON STATIC. Don't use the nearest rag either, that stuff gets everywhere.

I use papper towels, goo-gone first than %90 rubbing alcohol, than after it drys, rubbing alcohol with coffee filter, been doing that for years on manny, manny builds. q-tips, for edges and hard to get at spots on cooler plates.
