That still seems a bit hot. With my fan @ 75% my 580 doesn't get over 75C, I'll try it at 85% right now.
I usually just leave mine on the auto fan settings, because I don't like having afterburner running. I made a custom bios (edited evga 580 bios) with my OC settings, so I wouldn't have to start AB every time I boot windows. On the crappy default fan profile my card still doesn't get up to 80C playing bf3, and I think the fan only gets up to 59% or so.
I noticed you say your room is hot, and you live on long island, may I suggest turning down your heat? It's cold outside, your room shouldn't be too hot this time of year, in July without AC, sure.
It's easy to flash a bios to GPU, you just have to use nvflash. I use nvflash 188.8.131.52
, and flash right from the cmd prompt.
If you want to get to 100% I can send you my evga 580 bios w/ fans from 30-100%. I think that thread I linked you to, only works if the card is EVGA to begin with.
With my fan @ 85% running furmark for 7 min the card only got up to 62C, and seemed to level off right there.
Woah, I left my fan @ 85% for a while, and my idle temps got down to 27C. Too bad it's so noisy at that level.Edited by anubis1127 - 10/31/11 at 8:52am
