and is NVflash like, booting into BIOs except for video card?

That's a bummer, open a window? Lol.

Naw, it's just a command line utility to backup/update the firmware stored in the card's EEPROM.

If you get nvflash, I usually just run this from command prompt to flash a different vendor ID:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 nameofbios.rom

Then reboot windows.

It's always good to backup your bios before flashing a new one, you can do that in GPU-z, or

nvflash -b nameofbios.rom

hope that helps clarify.

Also, what's the VID of your card? maybe you could lower that. Mine came at 1.088v, which was high. If yours is high, and you are running stock clocks, lowering your voltage should help w/ temps.

Even at 85% you shouldn't have a problem cooling your cards even at ridiculous overclocks if you're only using max clocks for benching like I do.

Using a fan profile (1% fan for each 1*C core temp) I rarely see over 70c in a well ventilated case.

can't open the window, there's a stupid alarm on it meant to deter would-be thieves... IF they knew that my GPU costs more than some entire desktops... then yea.

anyway, MSI afterburner says i have 1.000 V, is that good?

Wow, yeah, that's very good. Nice low VID like that shouldn't be getting THAT hot, even w/ higher ambients than usually. Even if your room is 10F hotter than mine, that's only like 5C.

The thermal limit of the GTX580s is 97C. As long as it doesn't reach that temperature, it should operate normally. Your card is on the hot side, but you shouldn't be too worried. If you really want to turn up the fan to 100% the only option is to flash your card.

There are several guides here on OCN. I did it on my previous GTX470 to unlock the fan and the voltage - it's not to too complicated but a bit risky.

Have you tried making a custom fan profile in Afterburner?

Go under settings and click on the fan tab and move the squares to intersecting points of temp and % fanspeed such as 80c/80% and make sure there are no steps but a fairly linear curve. Once that's done make sure you click on "User define" on the Afterburner homepage, it should highlight the fan slider the same way core clock and shader clock is highlighted.

He's getting high temps even with the fan pegged at 85% he said he was getting 87C, which is still within spec, and not harmful really. I just find it odd that it is that high with the fan pegged at 85%.

Ah, makes more sense now. Didn't the case come w/ a 120mm fan up front for intake? If not, get one, and put it there, if it did, put it back. Also do some cable management while you're at it.

Here's a pic of my sig rig w/ the side panel off, not the best cable management in the world, because it's a PITA w/ this old case.

I have that same PSU in my HTPC, and it's a $20 POS newegg case, and my cables aren't that bad.

Wait one second.

From the side profile picture you took that card doesn't look like it's reference. There should be a grill near the bracket that allows you to see the heatsink and the overall shape of that card doesn't fit the profile of a 580.

Would it be too much to ask to have you take it out and snap a few pics of it.

Unless of course this is a pic of an older setup. The first pic isn't showing up on my end but I'm fairly certain the second pic isn't of a 580, or at least not a 580 shroud.

I r confuse. confused.gif

EDIT: Looks more like a GTX 470. So I'm assuming this picture is just for reference as to what the case looks like, right? Phew.
