I would shell out more money and go with the Pro if you plan to push your processor that much. A 6+2 power phase is enough in your case.

This guys motherboard burst into flames because it had a 4+1 phase power design.

There have been a whole lot more cases of people burning their PC's with 4+1 phases without heatsinks (check here for details). Some 4+1 mobos with heatsinks are good tho, but at the very least go with a 6+2 VRM setup.

Go with whatever is cheaper. If those mobos can feed up Bulldozer CPUs, you can OC safely even on the regular one.

Also, avoid MSI mobos at all costs. Their VRM's somehow tend to fail more than other brands, with or without heatsinks.

the m5a97 is not a 4+1. its a 4+2 design.. wont that be enough?

also the m5a97 costs $120 here.. and the pro costs around $150. thats why the question

i also oc'd the 925 to 3.8ghz on an asus m4n68t-m.. it was a 4 phase no split am2 design.. the asus have automatic throttling if vrm's heat up so no problem with any asus boards..

Yes, it's plenty. It's a quality 4+ 2 with cooling.

The regular M5A97 uses a quality VRM design with cooling. Go for it.

thank you guys for all the advice. one more question.. will the oc be limited if the ram is saturated to the maximum limit of the motherboard?

Would I be able to oc a Bulldozer on a M5A97 with 4+2?
