Thread Starter
Hey guys I looking to upgrade my current card because it is bottle-necking my pc severely. I'm looking to play games like BF3 and Skyrim without any hiccups. I'm trying to keep my budget below 300 dollars and looking for the best bang for the buck.

So help me out please!

Thanks !!!

I am just going by the benchmark i saw on tomshardware, but looks like the gtx 560 Ti or the HD 6950 is your best bet.

The 560m in my laptop [Asus g53s] rocks most games at 1900x1080 In beautiful form. Playing BF3 on it is awesome. Get more if you can afford more. if not the 560 will do you just fine.

If a 9800GTX is bottlenecking your system why the hell would you want to upgrade? The higher the resolution the less bottlneck. Get a GTX 470 or a 560. I dont have any recomendations. I say a GTX 460 would be a good upgrade. Im confused on your post. You say your bottlenecking but yet you want a GPU upgrade. I dont know. GROWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT. Sorry i thought you meant that your cpy is bottle your gpu. BF3 is a beast i ran like 35-40 with a GTX 460 maxed with hickups. Your going to need 2gb of GPU mem for BF3 because it runs high. Try out a GTX 580 that what i Had to get the 3gb to run. at 1280x1024 my rig was using almost 800MB of Vram. Thats your best bed. But that was the beta,.

Yeah but wouldn't getting a more powerful card be pointless at my resolution?

@ That guy:

He's saying his GPU is bottlenecking the rest of his system. Not that his system is bottlenecking his GPU. Meaning he will get better performance if he upgrades his GPU because his GPU is holding him back.

GTX 560 ti and 6950 are the two good cards for 1680x1050. I'd going with a 6950 2GB just for the hell of "future proofing" it a bit more VRAM wise, should be a good card for that resolution for the next 2-3 years.

No, it wouldn't be pointless to upgrade for that resolution. Your card is comparable to mine and even though it still runs dx9 games very well at that resolution, dx10 and dx11 games performance begins to suffer. (i play 1680x1050 as well) If anything, it will give you even more power to run games in the future with all the eye candy maxed out and you don't need to upgrade as often.

You'll see the biggest boost from upgrading your GPU at this point since you're not looking to build a new system

agree with all the suggestions for gtx 560 Ti. I'd get the 560 over 6950 anyday because nvidia cards are better at tessellation (dx 11)
