What settings to get to 4.5GHZ + on 2500k ASRock Ext3 motherboard

http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...t-2500k-7.html

I just bought (yesterday) a 2500k, ASrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 motherboard and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

Installed it and its all good, speeds are pretty darn sweet on default clock. Anyway, the BIOS in ASRock is very confusing for someone who upgraded from a Gigabyte 775 motherboard. Haven't had much experience in overclocking for like 2 years since I oce'd my E8400 to 4GHZ two years ago. Since then I have been content with gaming. Anyway, just wondering if anyone can give me some settings to change in the BIOS to achieve 4.5GHZ - 4.8GHZ. I just want that extra oomph, don't want to go mental oc'ing. I tried someone elses settings, but to avail I has to CMOS in order for my computer to run (pretty sure I entered them wrong anyway, this BIOS Q_Q). Love the motherboard though, just not used to this BIOS nor the new chipset.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Every processor is different. I myself can hit 4.8 @ 1.32v, while others I have seen need 1.44v

You just gotta push it and see what happens. Try to start off low and work up till you can finally boot into windows. I say start off at 1.3 and go from there.

Of course there are a few other settings you wanna be mindful of as well.

Ah ok. Cheers.

But what are the settings in the BIOS in which I have to change? Max Ratio and CPU Core Voltage?

Overclocking cannot be done by simply plugging and chugging someones similar overclock into your BIOS. It is done with patience and tons of trial and error. Take a look at some guides here in the Intel forum and take time in finding your perfect overclock for what kind of components you have. Someone with the same exact components as you may have settings that will not work with your computer.

I don't know if you have combed through these yet, but I suggest you look and get started! After it's all said and done, you will be proud of having your own custom overclock.

Cheers for the guides, I will have a read.

But isn't there an 'average' setting in which I can put my CPU to 4.5GHZ through changing a few settings?

For lack of better advice, yes, for that relatively low OC, you may be able to plug someones settings in. If you really wanted to find more settings, I would take a look at the 4+ Ghz club, and going to the Intel OC's, find your proc @ your desired 4.5Ghz speed, and taking a look at the settings. If anything, I would start at the lowest settings (voltages, etc.) and go from there. To reiterate, I don't agree with this, but to each his own.

I will eventually spend the time to find my perfect OC, but at the moment I am too busy and just want a performance boost really. Maybe its my rushy nature, but yeah. :X Thanks for the help again!
