SLI'd 550 Ti's would beat a single 6970, but I don't believe by a very large margin. Plus the 6970 has an extra gig of VRAM, which will come in handy if you decide to ever play above 1080p.

CF 6970 would definitely beat the 550 tis smile.gif

The 6970's in CF will probably murder the 550Ti's and give them a decent burial. >=D

A single 550Ti $125.00 vs single 6970 $340.00.

However two 550Ti's in SLI $250.00 vs one AMD 6970 $340.00 will closely match it in performance and at a better price/performance ratio.

Heres the proof in this little video. It's not a direct comparison but you'll get the idea what two GTX 550Ti's can do in SLI.

Hope this helps put this into perspective for you. smile.gif Noticed your new here Zvejnex, welcome to OCN! thumb.gif

6970.
it may be a little more but later you can get another one and murder the two 550's.
and it saves you from issues and scaling with dual card setups
post #6 of 20
I would always choose 1 powerfull card over 2 low end GPU's in this situation

And you will encounter far fewer driver issues with the single card setup and the option to get a 2nd later

SLI 2 560ti's and call it a day. I'll be using mine until they quit. I even run mine at stock speeds just so they will last longer.

Just because the 550ti's can match the 6970 for max frame rates doesn't mean they will play anywhere near the same. I would go with the faster single card in cases like this every time.

EDIT: just looked up some reviews, 550ti SLI barely beats out a single GTX 470 (at 1080p) so I wouldn't hold my breath for stunning performance.

I've always thought of the 550ti as a great bang for buck chip, but it has a nasty reputation on OCN. And I don't get why...
