Any dx10 or 11 game gives me 10-12 fps in gameplay or heaven benchmark - Page 2

I have the latest drivers and have even used driver sweeper to make sure i didnt have any remnants of old drivers before installing new ones. I have windows 7 64 bit which automatically comes with Dx 11. Ive tried reinstalling directx 11 with the dx websetup tool from microsoft's website and everytime it just tells me its already up to date. Does anyone have any ideas why I get such bad performance with dx 10/11? It's really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below are my system specs:

AMD phenom II x6 1055T @ 3.8 ghz
Asus M4N98TD Evo mobo
8GB G. Skill Ripjaws 1600mhz ddr3
Msi Hawk Talon attack Gtx 460 SLI (issue was happening even before I SLI'ed)
kingwin 1000watt mach1 psu
Windows 7 64 bit

Be specific on what games and settings. DX 11 enables features like tessellation (defaulted to "on" in Uniengine and other DX11 mode games) that aren't available in DX9. That could cause a drastic FPS drop if you aren't keeping settings manually configured. Same thing applies with games.

However, at least on my DX10 cards, I tend to get a 10-15 FPS boost in dx10/11 games due to more aggressive threading. Though rendering issues can pop up in DX11 mode. (backwards compatible with dx10, usually)

But I do agree, if all settings are equal. Reformat. Also, uncheck 3dvision drivers when you install them, Assuming you don't use 3dvision. They've been known to cause performance issues in the past.

Also, should've mentioned ... you've probably thought of it already, but I would make sure that you don't have any 'forced' settings in the NVCP ... I would 'restore defaults' in the global settings screen there for sure.

I meant to ask as well ... what does your GPU usage look like on each card, when you're gaming? The Afterburner graphs are great for checking this, as well as making sure your cards are clocking up to hi-power 3d when gaming.

I was joking entirely. I'm not that ignorant.

I was saying that because there are so many Intel fanboys that immediately blame our beloved 'last-gen' CPUs.

Great advice on just deleting the windows partition from my current drive after installing windows on my new drive. Took note on leaving HD completely disconnected throughout the entire Windows installation on the new HD. Using afterburner, both of my hawks are stock clocked at 811 core..I can easily overclock them to 925 and temps remain well under 60C at full load. For testing purposes, I have left both of them at their respective stock clocks. According to GPU-z both of my PCI-Ex 2.0 slots are @ 16x. I checked while running Furmark.

BFBC2, Alien vs Predator, Metro 2033, Dirt 3, and heaven benchmark on DX 11. The low FPS is NOT due to directx 11 settings such as tessellation. Enabling/disabling tesselation would not cause a drastic performance impact resulting in 10 frames per second on a gtx 460 SLI setup. Ive disabled tessellation while running heaven on dx 11 and it made absolutely no difference. I also disabled ambient occlusion, refraction, volumetric shadows and dropped my res from 1920x1080 to 640x360 and still get 10-12 FPS. For games I drop to lowest resolution and disable aa , textures, shadows, etc and guess what. ~10 fps. Yeah, Ive always unchecked the 3d vision options when installing the latest drivers. Reformat it is. THanks man.

Yeah, I've made sure to just leave everything on defaults on nvidia's control panel. Hmmm, I'm not to sure I've looked at the graphs for anything other than GPU temps.

oops sorry for the double post..yes I'm actually purchasing an SSD this weekend..definitely going with 120gb. Thanks for the recommendations Gfh, i have a lot of research to do regarding which to choose from. I hear the corsair force series have crazy firmware issues right now and are a nightmare so I'm staying away from those....

That's great news, bud. Glad to be of service, and we look forward to seeing you around

One day, you're gonna REALLY be happy you got the 'stuff you care about' onto a drive separate from where you've got Windows. That is really the ONLY way to go IMHO ... added bonus is that it also tends to perform better
