Hyper 212 plus back plate damaged my mobo?

Thread Starter
Hi,
Everytime when I am using the hyper 212 plus my pc would not boot. But whenever I switch back to the origional AMD heatsink, it would work fine.
So did hyper 212's back plate, or its retention system damaged my mobo? Anyone has similiar problem to share?

Just to add on, I even added small pieces of paper between the nuts and the mobo to ensure that the nuts are not causing the problem.

thanks guys

Make sure that it isnt crossing any solder points on the mobo.

Would the computer not boot at all? Or did it try. If you had a bad seat the chip might have gone into thermal shut down if it wasnt being cooled on boot.

Well if your Mobo works with the original back plate, then it did not damage your board. But the Hyper 212 backplate could be shorting out your board. There should not be any metal from the backplate touching the board.

the computer would not boot at all with the hyper 212 plus installed.

One more thing is that with the 212 installed, my com could boot with 1 stick of RAM in slot 1, but if i install one more stick into slot 2, it wouldnt boot. Same thing happens if i use slot 2 alone. Starnge right?

Make sure that you didn't peel of the insulating tape from the backplate.

You could have warped the board or a trace looses connection when the 212 is installed. Does the mobo bend when you have the 212 installed?

Yeah, that's what i am thinking of too. The board actually bends by a little with the 212, especially when my mobo is in vertical position in my case.
I just did an expirement 5 mins ago which could confirm this. When I hold the 212 with my hand, the computer would boot up and as soon as i let go of the cooler, my computer crashes.
Is there any remedy for this?
thanks

If you can find the faulty trace and maybe solder a jumper. Other than that RMA is your best bet but if the problem is not there when using the stock cooler that might be difficult too. Do you have any other cooler that you can try other than the stock and 212+?
