8 Pin CPU power in 4 Pin slot?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Is putting an 8 Pin 12v connector from the PSU for the CPU power in a 4 Pin socket on the motherboard safe? I don't have a dedicated 4 pin cable.

Cheers

Either he's referring to a different motherboard, or he's being silly and will find out when he goes to plug it in..

but yeah, other than possibility of the connector physically not being able to fit, the 8-pin EPS power is compatible with 4pin P4 power, and often, the 8pin connector will split into 2 4pin connectors in lieu of a dedicated 4pin cable.
