Computer is hard locking after long periods of time :/

Thread Starter
Current setup is in sig.

Primed it overnight for 8hrs and no fails, also did IBT on maximum and it passed.

Problem is last night I came home from work and their was no signal to the monitor but the computer felt like it was at full load(rads were warm, alot warmer than idle). Then this morning I woke up and the desktop screen is up but its hardlocked(unresponsive) and I had to shut it down and restart it.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

How much voltage do you have on the NB? Also what is your HT set at? ON that board you have to make sure the HT Auto is turned off and set it on 2000MHz.

Edit: Also what is your current temps?

HDD might be on the fritz... first thought. Run HDTune, check the health tab for your drive, if anything comes up that it's not fine, there's your problem. Run the Error Scan utility too to double check.

Or your RAM could be acting up.... try running memtest 4.20 on the ram, let it go about 3 passes [I always do 3 just to play it safe]. If there are errors, you found your culprit.

edit: gabead's right.. check that out too. Curse me not being up to speed with AMD's offerings ><

NB voltage is 1.15v i believe and HT is set to 2000.

edit* Temps are 45c under load.

Try this:

Put your Multiplier at x20 =4000 Vcore at 1.475v
CPU NB at x15= 3000 NB VID at 1.325v
Keep FSB on auto.

I think you will find this is even better than running it at 4.1GHz.

Keep in mind that I don't know much about your cooling system and how well it performs, but this is what I have my mobo set to. (I have the same board)

If you want to, you can disable the other 2 cores and run it at 4.2 possibly.

Edit: Also make sure your RAM is on defualt timmings and frequencies.

Is NB VID and Northbridge voltage the same? cause I think my BIOS has both options

hmm...after some research I was bumping up the NB voltage and not the CPU NB VID(which i should of been doing). This could be my main problem yes?

Correct you would be bumping the cpu nb vid voltage. Not the nb voltage.

Well seems like I'm still having this problem. Came home from work today and my PC had froze up(was fine in the morning). Seems like its only when idleing and I'm really at a loss here, any Ideas? It passes IBT x20 and 8+hrs of p95 I had running overnight.

CPU 4ghz 1.5v 45c(load)
CPUNB 2.8ghz 1.35v
RAM 9-9-9-24-2t 1.5v 1600mhz

I noticed some artifacts on the screen before I restarted, only 3 or so spots with some white pixels where they should of been black. But my vid card is fine and nothing like a dieing one.

Forgot to add, did 4 passes of memtest with no errors also...
