I agree, IBT is just ridiculous. I stopped using it a long time ago. Prime95 is a much better stability test and give more realistic load and heat output.

But people who insists on using LinX/IBT, go ahead and shorten the lifespan or burn your systems with that unrealistic piece of software. I will stay away from it.

So even if my CPU can handle my 3.6 GHz OC, my board's limiting me?

What if I improve my case temps? I have 2 fans coming in within the week, 1 which I intend to use as a push fan for my CM Hyper 212+ in push/pull (110 CFM Everflow) and another which I intend to use as a second intake fan in the front.

I expect these additions to keep my CPU load temps in IBT under 80 degrees, 75-77 perhaps. Will doing that have an effect on the VRM temps themselves? Or am I forever doomed?

I've tried looking around in the online shops available here in my country (The Phillippines), and I haven't found any of those heatsinks.

You should google your motherboard and see if it good for overclocking. I'm sure there are tons of forums and hardware websites that have done reviews and would tell you yes or no if it is a good overclocker.

My rationale behind using IBT is that using Prime95 takes hours and hours of testing, and I've had instances where I've passed Prime95 without any errors for hours, and yet fails IBT under Maximum settings.

I could run 3.6 GHz on Prime95 and be stable and probably not fry my VRMs, but that's kinda like cheating myself, isn't it?

Check your 12v connection, the 4 pin or 8 pin connection ,wich ever you have. Inspect each connection closely to see if there is any color change at all. I fried my 12v connection once before and smelt something, but did not locate it quick enough.

Reason you failed in IBT VS Prime95 is probably because IBT drops your Vcore further down VS Prime95, and not because IBT is a better stability test.

If you are Prime95 Blend stable, no other software, appart from IBT will drop your Vcore more then Prime95. So IBT is totally unrealistic, and not much good for testing system stability, other than outputting a ridiculous ammount of heat and drop your Vcore very low.

No since, even Prime95 after 6-7 hours reaches a point that you'll never cross with any app, unless you plan on folding for life.

I have my LLC enabled, and I monitor my Vcore via CPU-Z when stress testing, and no, my voltage doesn't drop any more in IBT than it does in Prime. In fact, because LLC is enabled, my voltage increases as the load increases. At idle it's at 1.23V and at full IBT load it increases to 1.244V.

If you got LLC in that board then what you are saying are correct.

From my testing with a Q9650@4GHz + and LLC enabled I found Prime95 Blend the supreme stability test, needing more Vcore VS IBT in order to be stable.
