Memory Card Upgrade

Thread Starter
hello guys,

So i'm looking for a memory card upgrade... I'm about to buy the G-Silk 3x4GB (12GB) 1600mhz DDR3:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231358

But i don't know if my system will be able to run the 12GB... So if it don't i would just buy 2x4GB of the same model...This is my systems right now:

Asus M4A77T
AMD phenom x4 965 3.4GHZ
XFX 6970 2GB
Corsair 850AX
733GB Seagate ST3750641NS

I will be able to run the 12GB or just 8GB is fine?

Well, you COULD get the 12GB. Your motherboard will support it

But since your motherboard only supports Dual-Channel, you'll lose performance you'd otherwise get with a 2-stick or 4-stick array.

So, you should get either the 8GB or 16GB. But you really only need 8GB.

G.Skill is the best though, can't go wrong

Thanks for the reply!

Look at that:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231315

I can get the one more card for only 15 more bucks!

But will by Processor and HardDriver be able to use all the 16GB?

And If i buy this 4x4GB (16GB) can i Use just 2 cards for now or they just work when stick together?

Depends what you are doing. 8GB is enough for anything really on Windows 7 64bit OS.

Video production or graphic base production would need high as 8GB+ min and 16GB as recommended.

I have 12GB because 2 sticks are free from my friend.

We don't call them "card" by the way, we call them "stick". ram stick!

Yes, but it's more than 15$ extra over the 8GB pack.

Yes, your processor and the rest of your computer is 100% compatible with 16GB of RAM.

Yes, you can, no problem.

But you'll NEVER use 16GB. So, you'll have 10GB of RAM sitting there.. doing nothing.

So, you have two options:

1.) Get the 16GB and use ~10GB for a super-fast RAM disk (if you need it).
2.) Get the 8GB version.

Personally, Just go with 8GB Dual Channel. You won't use all 8GB so basically getting anything higher isn't really needed. You can easily multi-task without any problems of not having enough memory.

Thanks for the replyes!

i'm upgrading the memory for games... Now i'm playing Battlefield 3 and it take so long to load maps here... and when i close the game the computer get too much slow for a few minutes...

Sory for saying cards instead of sticks... english is not my native language xD

So I think I'm going to buy the 16GB and use 8GB in my computer and give the others 8GB for my brother... it's okay doing this? Can i use just half of the sticks of the 4x4GB version?

Yes, It is totally okay with doing so. Just make sure it's in Dual Channel Mode for you and him to get the most performance out of it.

Ok! But how can I check if it is on Dual channel mode or not?

If You have two RAM modules in the same colored slots,
then You have Dual Chanel (128bit transfer rate).
