Thanks for keeping interest, with starting my second year of uni life's taken over again though now things have calmed down a bit I'm hoping to get at least one update pew week for you guys
As there is limited room in the case I decided to make an external rad box. After doing some research I found little inspiration as most externally mounted rads were just screwed to the top of the case.
My dad had some left over 40mm oak worktop from a job he did a couple of years ago which was just large enough to cut the three needed panels out off
The two panels on the left have a rectangle cut out for a 360mm rad in each, the one on the right is for the top Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
66.jpg
I love the grain and color of light oak
67.jpg
68.jpg
The box assembled, the end pieces will be perforated aluminium mesh. The current pieces were cut to keep the sides square while screwing it together

71.jpg
Test fitting a fan, three fans will be mounted in this gap and the radiator will be mounted behind
72.jpg
A rough idea how the system will sit
73.jpg
Hope you guys like it so far biggrin.gif I've never seen a rad box done quite like this so any comments would be appreciated
I've just had another order of MDPC sleeving arrive though currently have no idea on the pattern for the cables so I'll be fishing for ideas in the next few days thumb.gif

Genius. I love it. It's beautiful and really matches the Apple vibe. thumb.gif

WOOOOOOOOT! I'm glad life has calmed down for you, and i agree with broadbandaddict about the natural wood fitting the aesthetic. This should end up being pretty special. I'm excited for weekly updates! I feel silly making a suggestion because it looks so great, but are you planning to leave the fans exposed to view? I feel like they would take away from the design and should be masked with something. Maybe some mesh or something? Idk. Looks fantastic man, keep up the great work.

Cheers thumb.gif As it seems to be with all projects you start it with a time scale in mind then as time goes you start to realize the 'no compromise' approach to quality prioritizes over the original timescale set. I had been thinking the same thing myself, I haven't decided yet as the sleeving is going to be predominantly blue and grey to match the heat sinks on the mobo and i'm not sure if the fans are going to compliment this or take away from the design as you said. If I decide to put something in there I would design a grill in Autocad and get it cut so the grill inserts inside the hole

Update time biggrin.gif

Earlier in this build log I attempted to solder a sata cable with the hard drive cable, this appeared to work fine though I started experiencing BSOD's using it. I decided to come up with a better system

Here's the original connector

74.jpg

Sata Cable removed

75.jpg

An ASUS sata cable

76.jpg

The end of the cable removed

77.jpg

The ASUS sata cable in the original connector

78.jpg

The new connector glued together

81.jpg

The DDC CSQ pump top, I'm not a huge fan of the new design though you can't see it where its being mouthed in the case and over time it has started growing on me

80.jpg

To mount the SSD drives in the mac pro case I needed a 3.5" adaptor with the correct position for the ports to allow it to work with the hot swap drive bays

82.jpg

This is what i'm thinking with the pattern with the sleeving, any opinions on this would be great biggrin.gif

83.jpg

The pattern for the GPU cables, once again any opinions would be great

84.jpg

50m of molex 18AWG cable

85.jpg

My first ever attempt of heatshrinkless sleeving biggrin.gif

87.jpg

I'm working on the wiring over the next week so hopefully by next weeks main update i'll be able to show you guys some completed cabling thumb.gif

83.jpg 232k .jpg file I like the color combo on the sleeving.thumb.gif

Since the 3 pin only uses 3 colors how about maybe the 24 pin mostly white except for 1 or 2 rows of the remaining colors? (Offset maybe)

I likt the way it is now, just offering some ideas:D

*EDIT*

Something like the attached picture?

Good suggestion thumb.gif

It's a good concept that would work well with the color scheme, I only have 10m of white sleeving which sadly wouldn't be enough frown.gif I'm kind of thinking it would be easier not to have the white at all?
