Q6700 running hot

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
Not so long ago, I bought a Q6700 from a friend to replace my e5300. At the moment I cant really OC it because when I play a game on stock speeds the temps are around 60C and on idle 47-50.

I would like some your advice on the best cooling solution for me I have a budget around 200$ (this should include a case and a new CPU heatsink).

Thank you for your time.

For a CPU heatsink, I would recommend this, As this is what is cooling my 775 CPU right now;

Antec Performance Max 92mm CPU Cooler

and for a case, I would maybe look at something like this;

COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II Advanced Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

with that budget,
you can get CM690 II as a case

and the TR-Silver Arrow, or the noctua NH-D14 for the cooler

Prolima Super Mega $59.99

BitFenix Merc Alpha $39.99

Use the money you save towards another 6870 for XFire in the future.

Are there better coolers out there? Sure are, but they cost much more.

Better cases? Yep. But that Merc is fully functional and cheap as all heck.
