For that price range, you're better off getting a 550. and the 5XX series sucks less power than the 4XX series.

I've added a sound card below the gpu, put in another spinpoint, and reworked my wiring since this picture was taken. Sig rig.

Note that the 460 HAWK outperforms even a 550-Ti by a nice ~10-30% at stock and draws only about 5(15) more watts at idle(load). Please take his words with a grain of salt, or an understanding that his reccomendation included price and power to the exclusion of performance. I mean, the 460 has 75% more shaders. That makes it's case right there. Plus some people have hit 1GHz on the core, indicating massive overclocking potential.

If you are going to be gaming at 1080p, forget the 550. The minimal difference in price for a meaty increase in performance isn't worth opting for the current series card. The extra gig of memory on the 550-Ti is thus a real headscratcher, since resolutions less than 1200p don't really need any more than 1.

skinnysumo knows his stuff for power.

So, all in all, a definite yes for the 460 HAWK.

The 500 cards use more power than 400 cards.
