Can a GTX 580 do this? - Page 2

No buzz from my 580, no matter the load

I can return my 6950 and go for the 580 for $470 shipped. I just want to make sure that the frames stay above 50 with the settings I mentioned in the top of the post. I'm also worried about the noise level. How loud does the GTX 580 get while gaming with BF3?
honestly falcon, you have a 2600k and would be using a gtx 580. If my 2500k and gtx 570 cna do BF3 on the highest settings possible and maintain average of 51FPS, yours will do it better.

As for the buzz noise form under load, not sure if you mean squealing noise? If so, the squealing is the capacitators, and ive had that on my last 4 nvidia graphics cards whilst under load.

I get it pretty bad but only when I use onboard audio.

The 580 actually doesn't get that loud. I mean... how should it be described.... it's no where near as loud as you would expect it to be. My older 4870x2 was waaay louder, and my 470 was louder as well at full load / folding than this 580 folding.

Ninja edit: As for coil whine, that's a random shoot. Some cards have it, some don't. It's purely the luck of the draw :\

What I'm really worried about is the noise and buzzing. I actually just played a round of BF3 Caspian Border. And run Fraps, here is the log:

Avg: 58 - Min: 45 - Max: 60

That is with AA and AO off. Shadows at low and Post AA at low and no motion blur. The thing I do not like is when it goes below 50. I can notice it get choppy. I don't like that. If a GTX 580 can handle BF3 without going below 50 I'd be a happy camper. My system is totally maxed out on overclocks with the cpu and gpu just to get those settings as well..

My gts 450 can do it... with like 15 fps smile.gif

Well I did try and run it on my old 9700 PRO. I could run Ultra but I was getting -50 frames so it was a bit choppy :-)

4. AF 16x
5. Post AA HIGH
6. Vysnc On

Can it do that and still get 50-60 frames on all maps without going below that?

Hell yes to all the above, I'm doing it with my reference EVGA GTX 580.

Updated with FINAL RELEASE benchmarks.

ALL settings actually maxed out in ULTRA setting rather than just on HIGH. 4xMSSA turned "on" instead of "off". Maxed settings cranked.

Not sure about some people but I like it fully maxed out for gaming goodness. thumb.gif Don't know of any hardcore gamers who want to play with lower settings on purpose. Isn't it about being 'maxed'?

OCT 28th Benches Final Release BF3 .

As for your buzzing question, the GTX 580 dosen't have any issues that might plauge the GTX 570. It's proven to be a very heavy overclocker across the board. The Lightnings are amazingly so. Go read through the GTX 580 OC Club link in my sig, see for yourself.

Here's my highest OC I could reach with a reference EVGA GTX 580 3DMark11 Score @944Mhz Core, 7174 and just graphics score taking my CPU out of the equation I hit 7200 on the single card on AIR!

233438d1318453006-nvidia-gtx-500-series-owners-club-3.70ghz-944mhz.jpg

I've been running my GTX 580 @875Mhz core at stock 1.0880v since February which is a 13% over clock 24/7. I'm playing BF3 maxed Ultra settings and I'm avg 60FPS. Highest temp 72C even after hrs of playing. I've also not had any driver issues since install in January.

I'm happier owning this card than any other before. My previous cards were low-level/mid-level cards and this being my first high-end card I can't tell you how much I love the single GPU card solution, completely problem free all around the board. thumb.gif
