Thread Starter
ive had this g53 laptop for a while now its a 460M GPU

today i boot it up and load counterstrike. all of a sudden im getting wierd low framerates...... usually its at 60 constant on a full 32 player server.. now im getting dips to the 35-40s and half a second pauses every couple of minutes.......... it also doesent load sometimes... no intro just starts HL2.EXE has stopped responding..... also tried starcraft 2...... usually im in the 35s end game where i have a big army.... im sitting at 7 FPS looking at my base with only like 80 marines...

signs of a dieing gpu?

Have you monitored temps with a program like HWMonitor? I had a Gateway P-7811fx that would overheat and I would get weird artifacts and slow downs. It ended up being replaced because of a known issue with overheating on that particular production run. I would also suggest a good laptop cooler, if you haven't damaged it or eventually replace it with another performance laptop.

the overheating cant be the issue, its only running at 50-60 degrees on load and i have a cooling pad under the thing

is your laptop power profile set to performance mode?
Did you enable the asus turbo clock thing that OCs the processor in the software?

I have an Asus g60vx that's been chugging along... gets warm but not terribly hot. Only time i've seen throttling was when it got really, really hot. Or I forget to switch power modes in windows.

Have you run a memtest on your ram or anything? Maybe try downloading a free stress testing program for the gpu, I think 3dmark still offers a free version. Easiest way to get issues to manifest themselves is to run stress tests.

When was the last time you reinstalled windows?

What GPU driver set are you using? My Qosmio uses 275.33. I was having the same problems you were before I updated the driver set.
