What do you mean "Why a mechanical keyboard?" 8000$ budget he better damn well have a mechanical keyboard.

Ya and I agree with others, your really going to regret this. Not only is it overkill for like every game out there but this rig is going to me noisy as hell. Not to mention a 1500$ rig will get you a killer system anyway. You don't need 3 580's to run tri 720p screens, that's not all that big of a resolution.

Not that those are bad choices its just I figured this wasn't really a workstation that would be used all day everyday. I'd go with something cheaper and use that little extra that was saved on something like more and/or faster ram.
This computer will be used several times a day. The goal is to create the most realistic experience for the end user, and the most impressive. To do that, we will need high-quality parts for ALL aspects of the setup.

If you have money to spend:

1. Use $1k for a computer
2. Set aside the $7k for something meaningful
I get the feeling you only read the title. Read the post and you'll feel stupid for posting that.

OP get 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231449

Ok thats understandable then. If this was more of a one time display setup I'd say cheap out on the keyboard+mouse

or 1 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231468

May I ask why you're not going with Quadro cards instead of the 580's? They're much better at handling the type of load you'll be working with..

And .. Are you building a 3D Tron machine.. ?

1. Don't get the 2700k, it's no different from the 2600k. If you're playing with 3x580's you might need a 6-core CPU to avoid any bottlenecks.

2. Consider x2 6990's or 590's?

3. Maybe get a 2nd SSD for Raid 0?

Honestly it seems that too much of their budget is going into the display equipment and not the computer itself, it's like buying an amazing canvas with cheapish paints and brushes(i'm not an artist don't bash lol).
1. I'll look into some more hex core CPUs. I haven't even thought about that.

2. 590s are almost impossible to get, and 6990s are LOUD and hot!

3. Again, I don't need that much storage space.

IMO a better keyboard is needed.

Why not a Razer BWU? The Levetron is probably the ugliest thing on the market in terms of a gaming mechanical keyboard

The project will be ran with UDK. This isn't a 3D Modeling machine.

1. He already said he's not the best with computers. So I'm guessing he isn't too good with OC'ing.
2. No, just no.
3. Thats not such a bad idea.

I don't see why he's going with projectors for displays. He could get better RAM and maybe 32GBs of it.
