Only 1300 PPD big bigadv on Ubuntu?? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Alright here is an update:

I did an install of Linux, so rather than run it in a VM I now have a dual boot into both Windows and Ubuntu.

Followed the same guide as I did before but again the CPU usage was practically idle.

It "detected 12 cores" and grabbed a WU.

The TPF was 3:25:00-ish and PPD was very low again.

Any thoughts?

reboot to windows and check your cpu's speed.
Sometimes, it is crashed -- reboot and reset BIOS to default.

For the sake of the competition I booted into Windows and kicked off a norm bigadv.

When I first installed linux, the turbo wouldn't kick in when it was oc'd by each core. I needed to change it to "by all cores-changeable in os" or something like that, and just use one multiplier for all cores.

I have it set in the BIOS to only run at 4.9 GHz :-/

Doesn't fluctuate since it's a 24/7 folding rig.

What core temps are you getting while folding at 4.9? You won't be able to see the %load anymore in the resource monitor because of the hack, but your core temps are a good indicator of the load.

Oh really?! Well then that makes sense! I didn't have a temp monitor, what's a good one for Linux?

...

yeah, sorry. The nice gui resource monitor will blank out with the corehack. Opening a terminal and running top or htop will still give you the load.

But. Your cores will all load just the same even if your turbo oc isn't getting activated by the os. Your best bet is the temps.

You want lm-sensors, then once that is installed you can get the hardware sensors applet for the top bar in the gui.. gives you real-time coretemps.
