[Eurogamer] Nintendo loss big but not gargantuan - Page 2

They need to make the next Wii U better and release it soon. The lack of third party support on the Wii is hurting Nintendo now since companies cannot easily include Wii for cross platform games. Companies don't really target only one console at a time anymore since game development cost so much.

Also, the 3DS needs more better games.

  2. Good graphics

Not only this, but their competitors had a chance to build their market share with Great graphics (console wise) and games with decent story lines. Then later they came in with the gimmicks that Nintendo had, but much improved i.e. Kinect.
I disagree, Nintendo forced Microsoft and Sony into the "gimmick" Market because of the success that they had with it, only recently have Sony and Microsoft slowly been catching up with Wiis sold because of the saturation of the market.

I also disagree with the Kinect being any better than either offering, Personally I would tier them as follows:
PlayStation Move
Wii (with the motion plus attachment)
Kinect

Microsoft has completely alienated their base by devoting their entire line up it seems to Kinect. I just want to know, have you seen the Tom Clancy kinect game and how it is played? It looks ten times sillier than how it would be played on the Wii or PlayStation. Nor would a racing game enthusiast want to control the game by waving their hands out in the air with nothing to hold onto. If anything the Kinect is the worst in terms of motion sensing because it is pure gimmick, at least with the Wii as well as the PlayStation you have something physical in your hands.

I also would refuse to be called a Nintendo/Sony fanboy or a basher of the 360, I have all three consoles I almost exclusively played my 360 up until now, and the reasoning behind it is the fact that I hate the path that Microsoft has chosen to go, which is putting their entire game lineup behind Kinect, nor do I like the new desktop for the 360 coming in the near future.

My opinion on what needs to be done:

1. Mmorpg style pokemon game. This would just be common sense money maker for all the kiddies who buy pokemon games... Now they'll pay a monthly fee
2. Netflix on 3ds
3. Support some kind of app store with games like angry birds and fruit ninja. Not everyone wants to play long games.

That's all I can think of right now...

Hopefully now they'll get off their behind and innovate instead of rehashing everything a million times, I mean I'm as big a fan of Mario Kart as their is but I already own copies of for SNES/N64/GC and DS so I don't see how much different the new Wii/Wii u/3DS or any other future unreleased karts will be.

They need to fix their damn online system and change their stance on actually making it online viable. After Brawl and Mario Kart had such failure "online modes" I knew it was only a matter of time before Nintendo fell. I hope they can compete though as I love some of the nintendo classics and their new incarnations but I can only play the same SNES games in a new skin for so long........

Also I too rank it

Move
Motion plus
Kinect

Most people who haven't tried all three and are too blinded by fanboy emotions won't agree but there is no debate as far as accuracy and it's not even that close.

Well, pokemon is rehashed, but sells a ton, so they wont change that anytime soon.

But Mario Galaxy 1+2 mixed up the formula in interesting and new ways, new mechanics, they play differently.

Metroid is amazing full stop. Nah, but seriously, they had a huge hiatus of like 10 or so years between Super Metroid and the first Metroid Prime game. And the Metroid Prime's did have pretty damn different stories to the original metroids.

And Zelda...well, TP was a blatant Ocarina..not rehash, but an attempt to mimic it...without copying it blatantly? Whatever, the inclusion of Ganon at the last minute crapped over the story.

Wind Waker was vastly different from Zelda's up to that point, and Skyward looks to do the same. The stories may not differ much on the surface for this or mario, but with zelda (i.e chick stolen, go save), I found actually, the specifics are quite interesting, especially when you try and place the timeline of the zelda games. Skyward is seemingly the origin game of the Zelda series if rumours are true.

I personally feel that Kinect is better because it actually is sensing the motion of the player. It senses the users motion, not the motion of the controller the user is holding.

I personally dislike motion sensing gaming to begin with because of it's poor implementation. I feel as though motion sensing should be considered for party games like Dance Central. Any other game I feel more comfortable playing with a controller. Which Xbox and PS beat Nintendo in hands down.

How is it a gimmick if it worked though? Wii was weak with graphics, but their priority has always been quality games over shiny graphics, and all of their 1st party games where top tier, with some good 3rd party here and there.

And the 3D on 3DS? It works great so I don't get what you're saying (not exactly using the word "gimmick" correctly). The graphics are also on par with Vita, there's some screenshots from Metal Gear for 3DS floating around and they look great. The only thing holding it back in comparison is its smaller resolution, but it also has to power 3 screens so...

Agreed with that order. Having tried them all, and owning 2 of them, Move is the most superior; its the most accurate/closest to 1:1 yet, at the same time, does not make movement of characters an interesting problem. Its easy.

Kinect, at least when I tried it a few times, does not feel as 1:1 and at the same time, makes movement odd. I've seen some downright weird attempts at solving this issue.

Nintendo have the tough decision, principles or profits. They could release a powered up console and compete hand to hand with Sony/Microsoft and go with the flow but true to their style they are going against the grain and doing their own thing. If Nintendo do it right they could kill it again next gen. They've got the Wii into the hearts and minds of everyone young and old they just need to add an edge of seriousness because as much as people let on you can't let a game look like **** nowadays ESPECIALLY when you see the gulf between high end PC's and the current gen of consoles anyway.

The Wii worked because Nintendo knew who to market it to: Parents. They marketed it as an activity based system that they too can enjoy with their children at a time when childhood obesity and family time were of great concern. Not only that, but it gets their kids who already play video games to begin with, to MOVE while playing their video games. Thus making the parents feel like their doing their child a service by getting them to exercise without them knowing it.

And I've played around with a 3ds. The 3d is awful. You have to be holding it at the perfect viewing angle to even get the 3d effect, and at that the 3d isn't much.
