Like my monitor it has built in speaker but I have my own set of speaker I want to use I can't plug it anywhere without a sound card.

Dude, this is not a TV even yet it has HDMI monitor are kinda pointless if they have 1 audio jack.
I'm not talking about a set of speakers. My question is for people who are using 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setups. I don't hook mine up to a TV either. It goes HDMI from my GPU to my reciever and then to my TV. I get perfect lossless 7.1 discrete audio with it.

This question is intended for people with surround sound setups just like it states in the title and my first post. I should have also put with an AVR but i really didn't think about the HTIB logitech versions not having a receiver.

I also have no idea what that last sentence you typed is suppose to mean.

Leave to take a shower and so many replies appear Most people who have posted have given many good reason why they can't or don't (except that 2.1 hdmi thing by donny that was funny) but again this applies to the people with 5.1/7.1 . I had completely forgotten about older AVRs not having HDMI but I guess it's a nice trade off when some of those oldies blow away almost anything on the marker in the same price points

I see there place now. I guess I'm just part of a smaller group who uses everything with his Home theater setup. I'm not at a desk with my PC. It sets on my lapdesk and I set in a big comfy chair and sit back and relax while i'm on the computer. I just assumed that if you had a 5.1 setup it would be with an AVR. I think most people who answered are using 2.1 setups or headphones which I knew would more then likely need a sound card.

I should have made the thread title a little more specific and listed AVR in it.

It's fine, I like our little more unique setup . I'm the only person I know of who has a larger TV in my bedroom then in the living room and I don't even have a AVR system in the living room. I'm even thinking of going with a nice epson projector

I've been thinkin projector for awhile. I would have to do some remodeling though in my house. I would have to get some kind of black out blinds and make some doors for an archway. I've ogt a buddy that has a sony projector he got for 600$ that actually looks really good. He has to have his basement pretty much pitch dark though because it's just not that high of quality of a projector, but the picture look great down there at night, and it's only 720p with a 140 inch screen.
