Question regarding TIM application

Thread Starter
I would have posted this in the sticky thread but it is specific to Arctic MX-2. My brother is building a computer and long story short mobo is RMA'd after determining PCI-E slots don't work. Anyways he used some of my Arctic MX-2 paste and needless to say he used a little too much and some seeped out from under the heat sink contact and onto the side of his i5 2500k (the PCB/PCA that the CPU housing sits on). I was wondering if this would be an issue? I know MX-2 is non-conductive and I think it will be fine, but I need reassurance

Whaa? Of course it's an issue. Take that heatsink off, make sure you clean it off really well and remount it for him. Correctly.

Some thermal interfaces (not sure about MX-2) are slightly electrically conductive.

I should note the HSF is already off since the mobo is still RMA'd. I already had him clean the heat sink and CPU. In the process of cleaning is when the paste seeped

In that case just make sure it is done correctly the next time around. We learn from our mistakes.
