Not to sound like a dickwad (even though I will), but...

You weren't doing it right. If you really get absorbed into that game (think headphones, dark room, etc.), it will get into your head.

I am not at ALL easily perturbed, and I literally had to turn my character away from his imminent killer at one point because I couldn't take it anymore.

How old are you?

Meh I found Bioshock 1 had its moments. However Bioshock 2 wasn't nearly as atmospheric... or maybe it wasn't as refreshing as the original had it. Anyway I got immersed in Bioshock 1 and I found it "scary" enough. Great games though I just finished up Bioshock 2 from my backlog not too long ago. Almost liked it as much as the original.

Bioshock 2 is a little more action based and less atmospheric than Bioshock 1. Bioshock 1 did have a freaky atmosphere to it, I guess you could say that it was what made me enjoy freaky games like Dead Space.
