Fractal R3 definitely. Just built a rig with one, and my god, the silence just blew me away, air flow wasnt too shabby either. It definitely kept my 560ti & i7 960 cool. Just be sure that your GPUs fit, as long as they aint crazy long, you are fine tbh.

Seems to be out of stock on newegg. Did a quick google shopping search though:

The Define R3 is a good alternative, it's around $100 I believe.

Why so expensive?

There's "silent" and there's "SPCR silent". SPCR even rates monitors based on the noise they emit (not kidding). It's a great site and resource.

You can get really far with undervolted fans and good airflow (cut away grills, don't use too restrictive dust filters, if any). For example, the Noiseblocker Multiframe S-Series MF12-S1 is certified at 8 dBa at 750 RPM and 34 CFM and you can further undervolt it down to 6V if you want. Normally you won't be able to hear the fan at full speed though, it's just that quiet.

What exactly are your build plans?

You can't go for any of the really quiet low end cases if you plan on having multiple GPU's and a highly OC'd CPU. Things just don't work that way. In the Antec P183 for ex, temps get REALLY high, even with a single high end CPU and GPU.

The reason why the Silverstone cases work is because they have a huge amount of airflow. They were designed as gamer not silent computing cases. They just turn out to be very quiet due to their design. Basically high airflow means fans aren't struggling on CPU/GPU, and all the big Ap181 fans are on the bottom with tons of stuff to dampen the sound.

No one knows how hot exactly LGA 2011 CPU's will be, but I'm betting it'll be at least around Nehalem (i7-920) temps. Throw in a high end GPU or 2 and you really start wanting a high airflow case.

If price is an issue, the RV02 and RV02-E are both under $200 and are functionally the same as the FT02. See the SPCR review.

I would go with a FT02 if you want good sound isolation. With the ap181s spinning on low, its is hardly audible for me. I can't be certain it will be the same for you but the fortress is probably the most silent case i've ever had. Coming from a CM690II, Haf X and corsair 600T.

If you want to go Fractal, I'd actually recommend the R3 over the XL.
Cheaper, better cooling and same amount of noise.
