I've noticed something strange here.

My iPod touch 2 also scores about 26.00 average and 28.00 max, but my iPhone 3GS only scores about 21.45 and 21.50 and my iPod touch 4 about 22.22 and 22.50. I looked at Anandtech's review of the iPod touch 4 and his score was about 33.90 and the iPhone 4's score was 34.5.

I've just realised as I'm writing this though, that my iPod touch 2 is using iOS 4 not iOS 5. (As would have Anandtech's iPod touch 4.) Perhaps iOS 5 is under clocking for some reason.

Funnily enough that could mean my iPhone 4S's score could be higher too
That is a very good point. But it is possible that iOS5 is more optimized for dual cores. My iTouch was running 4.2.1 (I think) when I ran the bench.

I think what we are seeing is the software side of things interfering with our results.

EDIT: HTC Sensation 4G coming in the mail, can't wait to run some benchies on that

Perhaps that's true but still I wouldn't mind another twenty or thirty points . My iPod touch 2 was also running 4.2.1 I think.

Grats on the phone =) looks cool... I'm thinking I might get a droid... depending on the price, just to play with... the Transformer Prime, for example.

Yea, but I meant like there's a chance that iOS 4, while performing better with a single core, might perform worse with a dual core because iOS 5 might have better task scheduling/etc.

Also, thanks! The Sensation is really the best phone I can afford right now, I'm gonna pair it with the $30/month "monthy4G" plan. 100 minutes (don't call much)/Unlimited Data (First 5GB at 4G speeds)/Unlimited messaging.

Lastly, Droids are awesome to play around with. You can do the custom kernels for overclocking, and on the more well known phones, there can be many custom OS's to install (Ex: CynanogenMod 7). I would check out the XDA Developers' website's forums, and browse around. They do all the modding/etc.

It probably would but iOS 4 shouldn't perform better with a single core. I think iOS 5 is just under clocking, etc.

Sounds pretty cool

I've heard of CynanogenMod but I don't really know what it is

I'm wanting a 4.4" 1440x960 400 PPI iPhone 5 w/ 1GHz quad-core, 1GB of RAM. I feel I'm expecting a tad too much but we can hope can't we ?

Apple usually uses the highest end hardware that fits in the form factor/power envelope.

They don't brag about it, but how else are you going to provide a zippy UI with all kinds of fancy user interface?

So now you know why the UI on a 2008 ipod touch looks and responds better than the flagship android phones @ the start of 2011.

I'm sure some users are going to say its because the ipod touch isn't doing as much.

Load up the same photos in a gallery and start scrolling through the thumbnails.

If you don't bump up against the ram in the 3 year old idevice... it will crush a jan '11 android smartphone in scrolling smoothness.

I think we should stop using Linpack. These are the latest scores from my Sensation, which basically show the accuracy of this app.

-Single 56MFlops
-Multi 61MFlops

@ 1.4GHz

Does the ROM you're on support full dual-core? Does the Kernal also support full dual-core? Without both of these your LinPack results are going to always be wrong. LinPack is a excellent benchmark as long as you're doing it correctly.

Not sure, when I ran those I was running SelfKang's CM7 latest build and Faux123's latest AOSP kernel.

I can get around 85MFlops with the above set up 70% of the time, but I can't use an external OC app, has to be the one built in to CM7, separate ones bring to score to around 60.

I am also getting around 60 with my current set up in my sig. However, Sense has known benchmark issues so that is expected.

EDIT: I still don't believe that it's using the second core fully, due to the terrible scaling situation. I think I'm gonna have to wait till ICS to test that fully though.

I'm running a very similar phone (EVO 3D). Running CleanROM DE with Anthrax Mega Kernel, both of which support FULL Dual-Core. Without that setup I wont hit high 90's on average with peeks into the 100's. I used Android Revolution HD from mike last week and I could not hit anywhere near these results because it doesn't support full dual core.

Also depending on the CPU, it might truly be running better at 1.4ghz because those are the recommended specs on the CPU. At least that's the case with the EVO 3D. 1.5Ghz is the original specs on this Qualcomm chip. Sprint/HTC underclocked it for whatever reason. I receive better battery life and performance at the rated 1.5Ghz than I did at 1.2Ghz.
