[Kotaku] MW3 Guns get better with use - Page 10

I like it.

I used to like this feature on MAG in PS3...

You could advance with a weapon and buy specific upgrades, hance making you an excellent player with a specific weapon type.
I think this is a great idea as long as the weapons don't get overly too unfair and powerful. there are already some weapons in current COD games that have a noticeable advantage. I can only imaging what MW3 will be like if they don't do this properly.

3) Slight of hand? Those who are noob at reloading, don't know when to reload will have their ass saved by this?
4) Scavenger? Those who cannot aim but can only spam bullets?
5) Weapon proficiencies? Those who are so noob to aim can have reduced recoil to help them aim better?

Eh, weapon proficiencies like reduced kick is no different that steady aim, only difference is that on is from the hip and one is ADS.

I highly suspect the haters here are secret anti-MW people. For me, i enjoy both games. You want realism, join the army.
The difference between perks and unlocking sights, compared to these weapon proficiency, is that:

- At least with perks, you're given a basic set, something to help level the playing field. Weapon proficiencies, as far as I can tell, do not offer this.

- Sight wise, "clearer and better sights"? Right, except preferences on sights vary. I personally did not sight any gun in MW2, iron-sighted them all, because I preferred the iron sights. An RDS does not massively imbalance the whole thing.

This isn't about realism its about balance. Morons only imply these criticisms are based around realism, because they're not.

Until the game comes out and you try it one, we both cannot assume that the reduced weapon kick for example, will significantly reduce MW2 TAR21 recoil to that of an ACR or slightly in a more reasonable fashion.

The difference is that, we know how perks work. We don't know how proficiencies work. If you played MW2, you are NOT GIVEN a basic set of perks. You have to level up to get the perks, unlike Black Ops, which is nothing compared to MW2. So this basically means that, if you need to unlock danger close at level 45, but you are only level 1, you need to figure out a way to kill the guy noob tubing you. When there is a will, there is always a way. The same goes with weapon proficiencies. You see a guy with an AK47 with reduced recoil, find a way to get him, until you can get your AK47 reduced recoil as well, to "level the playing field", if you want.

Regarding the sights, yes, you argue that you don't or rarely use sights. If you argue that way, the same can be said about weapon proficiencies. I can feel that the weapon recoil proficiency is insignificant to my style of play and i prefer to perhaps, pick the 'faster draw time' proficiency if any.

In a nutshell, unlocking weapon attachments, perks and proficiencies are all the same thing because you need to level up whatever applicable to unlock them. Eg: Weapon attachments: kills with weapon, perks: kills/objectives/stuff you do with the perks and proficiencies: kills with weapons/stuff you do with it, i dont know.

I would like to go off topic here.

I know how you guys feel, having young kids running around the kids beating us much older guys in games. Yes, i feel the same way. But don't you guys remember being 13 and owning others in Quake or Counter Strike or Return to Castle Wolfenstein? I remember doing so many years back.

Fast forward to the present, we have to remember that games now are not the same like they were then. 2 identical teams with the same/similar weapons. I read this in a Starcraft book once. In real warfare, it is never like a chess game because both sides never start with the same and identical pieces. This simply means that with games being more advanced, we have no choice to adapt to what is on the market right now and just play.

I know as i get older, i am physically getting weaker. My hands move slower. I eyes track targets slower. I press buttons slower. This is a fact. And yes, the younger kids do get to kill me with their reaction speed and reflexes. But what makes me one step ahead of them is that i have experience. What would he do next. Where is the most likely places he would go. How would he go to the objectives. The most obvious set of objectives. Its like how gaming helped me when i ride my motorcycle. What is the driver gonna do next. Is it a woman or a man? What kind of car would mean what kind of driver. The same goes with gaming. If the guy has something new, figure out how to go around it. When i play games, i think of 'what the game developer' programmed it to be. The weapon, the map, all this has to run through your mind.

You have to trust the game developers out there. If they screw up, you either adapt to their screw ups, or just quit gaming, period. Gamers during my time thought out of the box, how to solve problems, how to glitch, how to anti glitch, everything. You know i never heard of rage quit or people spamming chat or VOIP(yes i know it didnt exit during that time, but you get my point). to complain about how imbar and a 'hacker' everything was. We got killed, we quickly stood up and figured out how to kill him back.

Those were the times. But the present is now. If the game is gonna be that way, you either shape up or ship out.

Okay, rant over. MW has always been an arcade style game anyway. But i take my games seriously because i can apply what i learn in real life.

I highly doubt that any of the extras you get from leveling up guns will turn your weapon of choice into a "death machine" like many are saying. The bonuses are most likely very slight.

I like the idea that if I put more time into the game, I'll get back small rewards. If the newbies want their weapon to be as good as mine, all they have to do is put the same amount of time into the game as I did. Sounds completely fair to me.

It kinda is, it appears to be, but it is not. When i first touched MW2(My bro bought it for the single player), somehow or rather, it seemed to be a nooby game. Very little objectives, small maps etc. But as i played it, i realised that it was more than meets the eyes. I actually spent hours researching online for the weapon characteristics, optimum attachments, perks etc. I spent hours, in between games, writing down combinations for the various classes i could create. The endless possibilities.

Take for example, some machine gun guy. What perks, LMGs, perks, attachments, deathstreaks, map, game mode would suit what style? Suppressive fire support? Mobile LMG? Static LMG? Stealth LMG? Commando LMG? You could play so many different types of roles even though you are 'a dude with an LMG'. Just by changing ONE perk, will give you into a different LMG role.

What i like about MW series is that, it focusses on customisability and skills. You don't need to worry too much about other stuff. How you customise your loadout and adapt your style of play to the environment factors around you.

That's why i would say the programmers at Infinity Ward(and the others) are smart. They are appealing to both the noob market and the experienced players. Players with little or no experience in FPS gaming would not want to play games and feel frustrated in games with a steep learning curve like Natural Selection or Quake Wars. Those games are HARD if you don't know how to play them. Its all about making money by ensuring that you target a wide range of consumers. Put your many eggs in many baskets instead of all of them in one.
