Can't OC 2600k beyond 4.2ghz?

I have been following this guide here and I am unable to overclock past 4.2ghz even with 1.42v. I recvently changed to a Gigabyte Z68 UD3P-B3 and have tried F5 and F7 BIOS.

MY CPU steping is: 3131A765

Is this normal?

its just vcore and multi,

set vcore to 1.4v and set multi to 46x

you should get at least 46x...


are you using ddr3 for sandybridge?

turn on LLC. Set based clock to 100mhz. And try the above ^^^

LLC is set to 3 which evens out my vcore perfectly without any vdroop. Vcore at 1.45v gets me 4.4ghz stable anything less and it BSOD's with 0x101 = increase vcore

If I run the lot on auto and adjust the multi to 4.2ghz it will boot into BIOS at 1.21v. If I push the clock any more that 4.2ghz it wont boot into BIOS without mass amount of volts... its very weird. It seems there is a ceiling at 4.2ghz... The reason I was setting everything on auto was to see what vcore it would set for the clock...

1.45v for 4.4 is way too high. You should be able to get 4.4 on stock plus a small bump in voltage. And you can use guides as a baseline but every chip will be different. Post your actual bios settings here for folks to look at.

You could get a chip that takes 1.375v just to run stock if you got a bad one.
