Safe to overclock my Gainward NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560?

Thread Starter
I have a Gainward NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560.

I was hoping to overclock it a little.

I ran MSI Kombuster for 15 minutes and the temperatures hovers around 80C under load (around 35C when not under load).

One thing I've noticed, this card is the loudest hardware I've EVER owned.

Anyway, is it safe to overclock?

I presume those temperatures are way too high?

Are the temperatures abnormally high? (like, should I RMA the card?)

I've never ran Kombuster on my eVGA GTX 560, but it hits 75C on graphically demanding games with the fan on auto (30% idle). 80C sounds about right when stressed at 100%. I have mine OC'd 120 Mhz over a stock card. Doesn't seem any hotter in games (well, maybe a degree or two).

download msi afterburner and set a manual fan config of with a 1/1 slope from (40,40) to (75,75). if u unlock the voltage control and lower your voltage steadily while stress testing until it becomes unstable. you will know what voltage it requires @stock speeds. then you will have alot more room for an overclock with lower voltages to start. lowering the voltage will also dramatically lower your temps. my gtx560ti 850mhz stock at auto voltage was 1.0v max load in heaven bench with manual fan profile was around 72c & 69c for my 2 cards. then with same 850mhz i downed the voltage to the lowest possible at 0.95 and temps were 68c & 64c. now im running 900mhz clock at 0.95 cuz my card was stable at that freq and voltage. GOOD LUCK!
