Oh wait, there are no others hear to do 'lump' you with, because most people on OCN aren't dicks.
So because the agency reporting is doing so in a public forum that is validation for you to call things you clearly have little comprehension of "preposterous"?

The image also fails to depict the apparatus that holds the ELI Ultra-High Field laser together, so then the components all just hang about in the vacuum of space right? Never mind that it shows huge white arrows pointing outward in the middle of yellow pulsing field lines. The laser would have to be red and visible to the human eye as well? I'm basing these statements on nothing but the logic that you suggest, which is this picture should be representational of what is actually going to happen. Seriously, that is your argument? If it's not in the picture then it must not have any relevance to the topic at hand?

Flaunting one's education (especially without offering any constructive information in the process) lacks tact. It doesn't make what you said wrong, but it's tactless--that's the issue most would have with it.

Not everyone knows or understands principles behind the postulated experiments in the news article. Do you? Did you always?
I believe I called exception to those obviously making jokes about Death Star and Ghostbusters references...

Sure it lacks tack, I also owned up to that when I said:

These two points points coupled with the rhetorical nature of your last few questions leaves me wondering why you posted at all. +1 post count?

I've already claimed to lack the energy to argue with someone who has nothing to base an argument upon but I went ahead and did it anyhow. I've finished what I have to say since there is nothing constructive to be derived here. You are welcome to the last word/retort should you feel the need, I however will abandon the discussion herein in hopes that some relevant postulating may still exist. In all honesty though I'm not sure the thread will recover. Nice chatting with you anyway.

Not that I think you'll come back and read this, but I figure others might want to see this:

You think that owning up to something is saying, "I don't have the time to address all of this mindless drivel in this thread"? That's not owning up to anything, that's just being condescending.

I'll summarize: Posting what you said, in the way you said it is tactless. The fact that you then say that you don't have the time to address all of the drivel doesn't excuse it.

It's like coming in here and saying, "you're stupid, uneducated, ignoramuses that don't know anything about this subject, and I have better things to do with my time than to discuss it with you." Why bother saying this at all?

And it's not like OCN is a panel on a scientific journal review board that necessarily knows something or anything about the subject. This is the news section, where people come in to discuss news and to learn new things--I would say how dare you come in here and condescendingly belittle people that clearly aren't educated in the subject matter while at the same time flaunting your advanced education in a quasi-related subject, yet you don't want to offer any contributing information pertaining to the experiments or questions people post.

Sure some of the concerns here are baseless, but so what? Do you really expect everyone to be an expert on this stuff? The only reason you state that nothing will go catastrophically wrong is because you, (like me), have faith in the scientists not to do something stupid. I guarantee you don't know enough to figure out what could and could not happen yourself. Let me tell you something, no one is impressed by your credentials. You are an undergrad ffs..... you don't even have a degree beyond graduating high school.

I'm a CS major, and have taken two compiler classes. Do I consider myself an expert on what is and isn't possible do do with compilers? Of course not, I have merely been introduced to them.

Anyway, I'm rambling, my point is quite simple:

1) Shut up, there are lots of areas you are totally ignorant in as well.

2) No one likes a dick, so.... see point 1

3) No one is impressed that you're an undergrad. At all.
