Dedicated Physx card for my AMD setup? - Page 2

I used to do it when I had a 9800 laying around but I would never pay for a dedicated physx card. The money is much better spent on components that get 24/7 use.

i have an actual pcie ageia physX card that i use. Yes, it makes a big difference in games. I picked it up from ebay. There is a particular version of physix you need, but it does work and work well. with that an my 5870, I can play pretty much every game.

an old 9800GT/GTX GTS 250 would do the job too. Physx is enabled in nVidia control panel for 3D performance I think, or is a special option for that.
the gt 500 and 400 cards in that price range wont do well for physX. A 9800 GT would perform much better (search 9800gt on google shopping) for $50-75. On newegg there is a gtx 260 for $100 which is overkill power.

Personally I like it a lot. it adds little details sure, but they look a lot better.

Just don't even bother w/ physx.
I use an old 8800GTS G92 for physx. Weird enough, my CPU does it better in most games.

this. i played mirror's edge just to try out physx and i had to check the options menu to make sure it was enabled. i literally saw no indicators of it doing anything, game was unchanged.

physx was just one big gimmick. logically if a developer were to invest considerable time and money into a worthwhile physics engine they wouldn't make it proprietary anyways.

just remember... if you have amd vid, nvidia likes to kill its drivers. I would love to use the 8800 i have for physx, but it uses 300watts vs... 65 watts of the ageia.

lets see... just about anything released in the last 2 years.. about 100 or so. Smoke effects always slowed things to a crawl until i ran the agiea pcie card. Now, none of that slows the system down at all.

I used a 9600GT just fine. You can get them all day long on ebay for around 40. Look around in the for sale section, people are selling 8800s and 9 series nvidia cards all the time.

As for the instructions, you should be able to just good Physx mod and find it.
