Dedicated Physx card for my AMD setup? - Page 3

This is what you use, it might take a few tries to get it to actually work. And you need patience, if it doesn't work, you have to wipe all your video drivers and start all over. I only did it cuz I had a spare 9600 lying around and wanted to test it.

I had an issue where Nvidias little sample games that show physx worked, but games like Mafia II didn't. Had to redo the driver install to get it working.

Well I can verify that if you buy a 6990 you won't be disappointed. I wouldn't believe the rumours either until it's actually for sale. You know how these things get delayed over and over again.

I have owned and also like Nvidia cards and didn't really see the point in Physx really. Buy a 6990 or even a 590 instead.

The Physx ship has sailed, there is really no reason to go that route.

The game has to be programmed to work with physx, you can't just slap a physx card in and have it process all the smoke or exploding effects. There definitely isn't 100 games that take advantage of a dedicated physx card. Here is a list of games that support hardware accelerated physx.

This. There are currently 17, which is nowhere near 100.

I know your link has the info, but this site shows a list of GPU accelerated PhysX games.

OP, I'm not sure about you but I don't play any of those games enough to have a dedicated physx card. If you do and have an extra $100 or so, go for it.

Low end cards like the gt240 won't cut it. I actually got 10-15 lower fps in Batman and Mafia II using a gt240 vs my gtx580 by itself. I did get 3 more fps in Metro 2033.

I reinstalled UT3 on my computer a couple of days ago. Didn't know it was on that list. No wonder the game looked so great!
