Also (not sure if it counts) I offer free service to repair my friends, family's and family's friend's Computers, Teach them stuff and the like.

I was at the grocery store this morning, had to stop in for an energy drink since I was dragging so bad. Only one register was open so I got in line behind a woman with a full cart of stuff who had 3 kids with her. It was obvious they were not all her own (she was caucasian, one of the children was african american) and I struck up a conversation asking if she was a nanny or ran a daycare or something to that effect. It turns out she adopted two of children with her husband and then found out recently he'd been cheating on her. When she confronted him about it to work it out, he left and took everything while she was at her mother's house with the kids. She came home to an empty house. That's a lot to tell a stranger, in my opinion.. but I commisserated with her because that would be a really crappy situation to be in. The cashier rung her up and she swiped her card but it was declined. She tried another card and it was declined. She was all frustrated saying "no way, there is plenty of room on these cards." She started apologizing to the cashier and trying to put stuff back in the cart so I just pulled out my card and swiped it. I'm $250 poorer but I feel great for helping that lady and her kids eat for another week. Hopefully her dirtbag husband starts paying some alimony or something.. I get the feeling he ran up the balances buying stuff after he left her.

I'd like to be able to say I'd give away the 5770 to a friend or something but honestly I'd crossfire it with the one I have and get caught up to be able to run some newer games with higher settings

I was on my way to work this morning (in 39 degrees, rather cold for NC) when I saw a young man (about 25, I'd guess) with down's disease walking in a Harris Teeter uniform. I recognized him because on Tuesday, Harris Teeter has a sale on their subs and I so I have lunch there on Tuesdays. Anyhow, I stopped and asked him if he'd like a ride to his work. We had a brief conversation in the car where I asked him which days he worked. He replied that he worked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays so I told him that if he liked, I could drive him to work during the winter months (since it is on my way and he said is was a 20 minutes walk for him). He said that he'd ask his Mom about it and I wrote down my phone number for him.

Anyhow, I did that before I saw this thread. I doubt I'll be able to top it as I am not an especially observant person. I do love helping special needs people though and am pretty comfortable doing so because I have a few family member with downs disease.

I was driving to a Kmart and on in the bottom of the parking lot (Kmart is on a hill with a bunch of other businesses) there was a stalled van with just one guy trying to push it up so he could get to the mechanic. I had a couple of other friends with me (we were getting stuff for a haunted garage) so I parked my car, got out and helped the guy that was pushing the van. Eventually we made it up. He offered money but my friends and I said no.

My wife, daughter and I went to Starbucks the other day and were sitting in the comfy chairs drinking our coffee. There was a homeless man sitting at the table closest to us. He was an older guy, had obviously not bathed in a long time and his feet were sticking out holes in his shoes because they were so worn out. You could pretty much see his whole foot coming out of one of them.

As we were leaving we couldn't get over how sad it was, especially with it getting down below freezing at night and full winter coming soon here in Idaho. We drove across the street to a Big5 and bought a new pair of hiking boots and a new pair of thick socks and drove back over to Starbucks hoping he would still be there. He was still there and I handed him the hiking boots and talked to him for a second. He was obviously happy and appreciative.

It would have been so easy to just walk away, but for some reason we couldn't and were very glad we didn't.

I keep my Karma up on a daily basis with Random acts of Kindness to Strangers.

Most recent, Spent about 13 hours helping Move Large Branches and trees from the roads around my town and anywhere else I happend to drive near. All In all, I cleared up about 20 streets, and probobly 100 large sized "Tree" parts after the Winter Storm that messed up the NJ Area just this weekend.

Brought my Chainsaw and Shovel, helped any Old person I saw outside shoveling themselves, and cut up any Large branches that blocked there Driveways or streets.

I charged nothing of course, but I did get some free gass for the Chainsaw =)

And Those people who dont use a Firepit, I was allowed to bring some Fire Wood back to my place where I put into my Toolshed - Was a great day and I felt awesome doing it.

its too bad people charge so much for that kind of removal etc, and the towns or county never gets it done, so im sure I made quite an impact =)

My mom passed away 3 weeks ago after a 4 month battle with lung cancer. I have one sister who lives 2 hours away in New Orleans, and didn't really help much. I am 24 with a 3 year old and a 13 hour CpE school semester. When she passed i had to get rid of 60 years of pack rat crap in the middle of the semester. I packed up just about everything, including a $3000 powerchair/scooter, $400+ wheelchair, 2 beds, desk and 2 endtables, washer/dryer, DVD player, VHS, 300+ religious books, and donated it to the goodwill. She also burned alot of DVDs and CDs with church teachings. She had probably 1000 random disks laying around and i donated those to 2 churches she attended. I didn't have anytime to have a garage sale nor did I have the energy. She had so much stuff and I got about $500 after selling her desktop and laptop. I still have her van that is worth about $1500 that I can't sell because we have 1 month left of school that is killing me.

I love this thread. Act's of kindness are becoming rare in modern society where time is money. No amount of money can equal a selfless act.
I feel a bit guilty reading some of these stories.
