Another GTX 580 1.5GB or 3GB?

So I plan on buying another gpu my specs are down below.
So this is my plan so far:
-Buy another EVGA GTX 580 1.5gb or 3.0gb
-Buy a triple set up display

I heard that for triple displays 1.5gb is not enough, so im thinking of going for a 3gb 580. Since vram does not add up can I just sli my 580 1.5gb with a 580 3gb?

And use the vram from the 580 that has 3gb?
Or is their some problem and will only be able use 1.5gb from the 3gb?

Having 3GB on the other card wont help the first card out at all. Doesnt mean it will hurt it either. But unless your changing out the other one later I wouldnt bother.

has to be the same card i believe. so no 3GB with 1.5GB.

even if you could do these together, you would only be able to use 1.5GB because... well think of it like the data is on BOTH card's vram, instead of only on one but the GPU of both is used. like raid 1.

If you're going for triple screens, then buy the 3gb 580 and use that for Sli for a bit with your current card until you find a buyer for your 1.5gb. Then buy another 3gb card You'll need the vram for that high resolution of three screens.

BTW 1.5gb + 3gb for SLI = 1.5gb.

You will run into Vram issues with 1.5Gb Vram. So unless you dont mind being bottlenecked by the 1.5Gb, you can just get the 2nd 1.5Gb card.

The 6970 CFX option is there as well.

Although there isn't a benchmark to back it up, the larger memory group of the 3GB is actually a tad slower due to higher timings, if it works without issue regardless.

Best advice is to stick with what you got. Most games run well in 5760x1080 with 1.5GB.
