Hey, i was wondering if there was any real difference in performance/reliability/features/whatever else between having it in IDE and ACHI mode i currently have mine in IDE and want to know if its worth the reinstall of windows to put it into ACHI mode
you dont have to reinstall windows. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=313676
did this yesterday it works.
noticed a bump in spped too, maybe i imagined it but wei went from 6.8 to 7.3.
and yes i know thats not a real benchmark.
my bios is $%^#ed up it shows my 1st boot as some random ssd with nothing on it my second is some usb key and windows boot manger is no where to be found and my boot ssd isnt listed (this is the boot order in click bios 2)
edit: note it has been screwed up for some time before attempting to do achi
Nope, untrue. Really with an SSD it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. AHCI specification wasn't designed with SSDs in mind, it has NCQ which is great for physical HDDs though.
Now if you plan to hotswap drives... you need AHCI, otherwise don't worry about it too much.
Not true. For most SSDs it's enabled in either. But IDE mode has to wait for a read or write to finish, while AHCI can push tons of requests through. Although SSDs are so fast you probably wouldn't notice the difference, AHCI is way better when multitasking. I think it's important for modern SSDs - the new controllers can handle more than one request at once.

i tried that. made no difference switched to achi mode and it gives me a blinking line at boot.
Then go back into your BIOS a second time and fix the boot order.
