turn 1 pc into 2 or???

Ok here it goes... I have 2 computers. One you see in my profile (pretty decent) and the other is an old pentium 4 3.0 single core with HT. I can hook up 2 monitors to my good computer and to mice and extend the desktop so that while my wife watches movies or whatever I can surf the internet. However that gets to be a pain if she needs a keyboard or I wanna play a game etc. Is it possible to split the pc right down the middle with 2 monitors 2 mice and 2 keyboards and work indepent completely from each other? or......... can I somehow connect to the quad core from the single core and use its resources? I have VMware and have created a virtual machine from the quad core and even shared that Vmachine on the network and with the pentium I can see the shared virtual machine but cannot connect to it. it asks for activation code (and it is activated and even installed on the pentium) i gave the virtual machine 4 gb of my 16gb of ram because that is all she would need but not sure if the keyboard would work independently or not still. I have seen microsofts multipoint server 2011 and it seems like it might be what i am looking for but Im sure it is expensive. It uses remote desktop over the lan to act as a separate machine. Anyways you heard enough of my rambling if anyone ahs any ideas please let me know and please dont state the obvious like jsut buy another pc etc etc. obv not an option.

Yes this is completely possible, there are commercial solutions available and its a native feature of the X window system. What you are looking for is known as a "multiseat configuration":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiseat_configuration

I'm not an expert on the windows side of the house, so maybe someone has some insight on that, I know its something Microsoft worked on making more possible with Windows 7.
The Linux implementation even has the capability of the graphics cards for either display to render on either display (I.E. GPU 1 attached to monitor 1 rendering graphics on monitor 2 attached to GPU 2) so that whichever GPU has the least load can be selected as the render source.

Edit: Windows Server 2008 and later can utilize Windows MultiPoint Server to serve up a desktop environment to multiple slave 'workstations' from a single master server (these can be through thin clients, usb or ethernet adapters or via direct connection to ports on the master server)

SoftXpand looks promising as well on the windows front, although since its virtualized you will likely lose all graphics acceleration on at least one client. Which is probably the case for MultiPoint as well... (though I could be wrong)
Anyways, I need to sleep enough googling for me for now.
