GTX 470 or HD 4870 X2?

Thread Starter
My current video card is a GTX 280. It's pretty old and I'd like to play the latest games on at least medium settings with a decent frame rate. I'm on a tight budget and only willing to spend $250. I'm looking for the best card in that price range. I narrowed it down to either a GTX 470 or a HD 4870 X2. According to this site, the 4870 X2 is better...

Which card do you guys think I should get and why? Please give unbiased answers based on facts. I normally go with NVIDIA but for now I'm looking for the best bang for my buck.

And if you know of a better card that fits my budget, please mention it smile.gif

Would a 6950 2GB be best? I see that a lot of people are recommending the card and it's around $250.

Get the 470. It's newer which means it's more power efficient and runs cooler. Not to mention the fact that it supports DX11.

I'm sure the real technical people will get in here and break it down even more why you should get a 470.

I know its $290, but for the extra $40, get the sapphire toxic 6950, just with a flick of a switch, it transforms into a 6970 (70%-80% of the time tongue.gif ), that means you get alot more bang for your buck!
Also do you mind if an AMD card gets into your NVIDIA case like a ninja ;p , i mean, it'll look preeeety iffy biggrin.gif

Just a side opinion but locally here you can find two 5770's for about $100 and in some perspective it's been said to work as well as a 5850/70 or a GTX 560.
You can get used 4870X2 for around $105-$125 here in the marketplace a lot of the time. GTX 470's $150-$170. Performance wise a 4870X2 is about equal to a HD 5870 which makes it just slightly better then a GTX 470. But it would not have Direct X11 for any newer games. I would definitely go GTX 470. Plus they OC like a beast, most of them. But like everyone else is saying, for $250, you can include newer cards like GTX 560Ti and HD 6950 into the equation.

560ti is best bang for buck at the moment, tell me if i'm wrong! Also, they're bringing out a newer, more powerful 560ti very soon at the same pricepoint smile.gif so maybe worth waiting a few weeks and seeing what like!
